Inter Milan are allegedly preparing to offer Liverpool-linked Nicolo Barella a new deal until June 2026, while the Italian star could also be handed the captain’s armband for the 2022/23 season.

The 24-year-old star’s future has been the subject of speculation in the latest months, and Jurgen Klopp’s side are believed to have recently contacted I Nerazzurri to discuss the central midfielder.

Nicolo still has three years left to run on his existing deal at San Siro, but according to a report from an Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Serie A champions are preparing a fresh and improved contract until the summer of 2026.

The report also states that the star will be promised the captaincy at the club next term in order to convince him to reject interest from the Premier League.

Nicolo has been in impressive form for the European giants at the start of the 2021-22 campaign, netting once and providing six assists in 10 matches in all competitions.

Liverpool have still not penned a replacement for the Netherlands international Georginio Wijnaldum and are expected to be in the transfer market for a new central midfielder either in the winter transfer market or at the end of the season.
