Liverpool news round-up: Nkunku boost, Adrian speaks out, Gakpo latest

Liverpool attacking target reluctant to renew Leipzig contract

Liverpool have handed a boost in their efforts to sign Christopher Nkunku, as the player is reluctant to sign a fresh deal at RB Leipzig.

The Frenchman had a superb campaign with Die Roten Bullen and his exploits in Bundesliga and Europe has seen Christopher pop up on the transfer radars of multiple top clubs across the continent.

The Reds and Chelsea are keen on a move for the star, with both clubs planning to bolster their attacking options in the summer, while Real Madrid and Manchester United are also interested in the attacker.

He is contracted at the Red Bull Arena until the summer of 2024, but the management wants to tie him down to a new contract.

However, according to German source Spox and Goal, Christopher is hesitant to extend his spell at the club, which is a boost to his potential buyers.

The RB Leipzig board are optimistic about their chances of retaining the services of the former Paris Saint-Germain ace beyond this summer.

The club could be tested though with an acceptable offer for him. The forward grabbed an impressive 35 goals in 51 matches across all competitions for his team in the recent season.

Spanish goalkeeper on his long-term Liverpool future

Liverpool shot-stopper Adrian has revealed he’ll evaluate’ his future at Anfield once they’ve concluded their campaign.

The Spaniard has been with the Reds since joining on a free transfer from the fellow Premier League club West Ham United in 2019.

He arrived on Merseyside as a backup to Alisson Becker, and that is how the player’s time at the club has been spent, with just 25 outings to his name in that period.

This term, in particular, he has featured in just one match in all competitions, with 90 minutes in the Carabao Cup victory over Preston North End, his only game time despite the team having played in every available game in 2022.

Adrian signed a new deal last year, but it wasn’t made clear when that would expire, with many expecting it to be this June.

It seems that mightn’t be the case, though, with Adrian insisting that he still has 12 months to run and could stay put as a result.

“Alisson is one of the best goalkeepers in the world,” the former Hammers goalie told Spain’s premier radio network Cadena SER.

“We all want to play, and this season has not been as he would have liked. When we finish the season, we will evaluate; I still have a lot to contribute.

“I love my profession and being a professional. We will evaluate when the time comes. I would say yes, with a bit more strength (to a return to Spain).

“Obviously, the country pulls a little, and I would like to return to La Liga, but that is always if the opportunity arises. But I still have a year left on my contract.”

Eredivisie club have no offer from Liverpool for their key player

PSV Eindhoven are reportedly yet to receive a proposal on their table for Liverpool target Cody Gakpo ahead of the upcoming transfer market.

The attacker has had a brilliant season at Rood-witten and has scored 21 goals and registered 15 assists across all competitions this term.

Several top clubs across the continent have taken note of his showings and he has been linked with a transfer away from the Philips Stadion this summer.

The Reds are amongst the sides who have their eyes on Cody but it has been stated that concrete interest in signing the talented Netherlands international is yet to be shown.

According to the Dutch outlet the Eindhovens Dagblad, the Dutch outfit are yet to receive an offer on their table for the wide man ahead of the window.

They do not want to part company with him but are aware that they’d find it hard to turn down a big offer. However, no such bid has arrived and there is a feeling that the frontman could stay next term.

He himself hasn’t ruled out staying put and recently revealed that he is wary of changing teams months before the 2022 World Cup.
