Liverpool news round-up: Gomez injury update, Minamino interests Lazio, Otavio on wishlist

Liverpool avoid major injury scare as defender underwent scans

Liverpool centre-half Joe Gomez is expected to be fit to feature in the UFA Champions League final later in May despite sustaining an ankle problem on Tuesday night, according to a report from The Times.

The 24-year-old star was brought off at half-time in the Reds’ 2-1 win over Southampton because of an ankle injury he picked up.

The injury raised doubts about the player being fit to be in the roster for the UCL final against Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid on 28th May.

He has had scans on his injured ankle and some of the doubts over the long-term repercussions have been minimized.

No severe damage has been detected and Joe Gomez is expected to recover from it over the next several days.

The club are confident that he’ll be fit to be for the big match against Los Blancos at the Stade de France.

The Merseysiders are sweating over the injuries of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, but both are likely to feature on the final day of the campaign on Sunday.

Manager Jurgen Klopp will hope most of his key men will be prepared to feature in the showpiece event in Paris at the end of the month.

Serie A emerges as possible next location for 10-goals Liverpool forward

The Serie A club Lazio are interested in a move for Takumi Minamino, who has been tipped to depart Liverpool in the summer transfer market.

The Japan international’s future on Merseyside is under the scanner as the player has been a bit-part player under manager Jurgen Klopp this term.

He largely played in cup competitions for the Reds this season and thus far has only a single start in the English top-flight, which came this week in their 2-1 win against his former loan side Southampton in which Takumi also scored.

The 27-year-old star has been on the books at Anfield since the winter of 2020, but is yet to force his way into the first eleven, while the attacker was also sent out on a short-term loan spell last term.

And according to the Italian website, he will part ways with the English outfit in the summer, with I Biancocelesti keen on him.

They are looking to strengthen their attacking options this summer and have the ex-Red Bull Salzburg man on their transfer radar.

His current deal at the club runs through until June 2024 and it remains to be seen what kind of sum Liverpool are going to demand for Takumi’s services.

The management were open to listening to offers for him in January and then he was rated at around £20 million.

Liverpool enter race to secure services of €60m Porto star

Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly also interested in landing Otavio, ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

The 27-year-old star was a fixture at Estadio do Dragao under the Portuguese manager Sergio Conceicao in the recently concluded season.

His performances for Dragoes did not go unnoticed and the player has been monitored regularly by scouts from multiple teams throughout this term.

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United also have the midfielder on their transfer radar as the manager looks to overhaul his roster in the forthcoming summer transfer market.

And according to the newspaper A Bola, the Toons are joined by their division rivals the Reds and the Red Devils in their admiration for the versatile player.

The trio of Premier League sides all have the South American in each of their transfer watchlists for the summer window and could make swoops for Otavio in the coming weeks.

He has been a Porto player for eight seasons now, signing a new deal in 2021, which will see the midfielder contracted there until June 2025.

However, the ex-Internacional man has a release clause worth €60 million that can be activated by potential buyers to snare him away.
