Liverpool would reportedly have to make a ‘sensational’ proposal to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic next year, reports say.

The Anfield outfit had a quiet summer transfer market but could move to strengthen Jurgen Klopp’s squad next year.

Ibrahima Konate was the Reds’ only new addition in the summer, with the centre-half arriving in a £36 million deal from the German club RB Leipzig.

The Reds instead focused on handing their current players longer deals, with Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson all extending their stays on Merseyside in August.

Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah are the next players in line for new contracts, with the attacking trio’s current deals set to expire in the summer of 2023.

However, the English giants are likely to dip back into the transfer window in 2022, with Klopp’s roster potentially needing a refresh.

One of the zones they could look to bolster is central midfield, considering they lost Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer in the summer.

They have previously been linked with Lazio’s Serbian star Milinkovic-Savic, who has impressed this campaign by registering three goals and two assists in eight Serie A matches so far.

However, he wouldn’t come cheap. According to Calciomercato, it’d take a ‘sensational’ bid of around £67 million (€80 million) for I Bianconeri to think about selling their star player.
