Liverpool avoid major injury scare as defender underwent scans

Liverpool centre-half Joe Gomez is expected to be fit to feature in the UFA Champions League final later in May despite sustaining an ankle problem on Tuesday night, according to a report from The Times.

The 24-year-old star was brought off at half-time in the Reds’ 2-1 win over Southampton because of an ankle injury he picked up.

The injury raised doubts about the player being fit to be in the roster for the UCL final against Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid on 28th May.

He has had scans on his injured ankle and some of the doubts over the long-term repercussions have been minimized.

No severe damage has been detected and Joe Gomez is expected to recover from it over the next several days.

The club are confident that he’ll be fit to be for the big match against Los Blancos at the Stade de France.

The Merseysiders are sweating over the injuries of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, but both are likely to feature on the final day of the campaign on Sunday.

Manager Jurgen Klopp will hope most of his key men will be prepared to feature in the showpiece event in Paris at the end of the month.
