Liverpool have announced that 19-year-old defender Billy Koumetio has joined Austria Vienna for a season-long loan deal.

Billy Koumetio has spent the past three-and-a-half years at Anfield since arriving from Orleans and previously spent four years in Ligue 1 giants, Lyon’s academy between 2014 and 2018.

Koumetio has since become a regular for the Merseyside Reds’ Under-23 side, and he has also played two first-team games under Jurgen Klopp.

Koumetio came on for the second half of a Champions League match against Danish outfits, FC Midtjylland back in December 2020 and made his first senior start for the team in last campaigns EFL Cup quarter-final win over Leicester City.

The France Under-20 international will now be spending one year on loan in Austria to secure regular first-team experience, and the 2021-22 season was a productive one for the defender at youth level.

Koumetio has found back of the net twice and provided one assist in 24 Premier League 2 games and also played every minute as the Reds youngsters reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Youth League.

The Frenchman heads out on loan after fellow defensive starlet Conor Bradley signed a short-term agreement with Bolton for the upcoming season.
