Manchester United are allegedly ‘on red alert’ for Scotland and Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn.

The player has again been in brilliant form at club level during the 2021-22 season, making 21 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and contributing two assists.

A fresh report claimed that the Red Devils are admirers of the star and are ready to pursue a possible deal during this summer’s transfer market.

Villa head coach Steven Gerrard said in January that his player was not for sale after being quizzed on his long-term future amid talk of interest from Ralf Rangnick’s side.

But, according to a recent report from The Mirror, after learning that their Premier League rivals want to swoop for Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi, the 20-time English champions have been handed a boost in their pursuit of John.

The 27-year-old has netted 16 goals and registered 21 assists in 132 outings for his team since joining the club from Hibernian four years ago.

The Old Trafford outfit are expected to snap up at least one new central midfielder in the summer, with Paul Pogba likely to leave the Theatre of Dreams following the expiration of his existing deal.
