Newcastle United are allegedly hopeful of beating Ralf Rangnick’s Manchester United to the signature of RB Leipzig star Amadou Haidara.
The 23-year-old midfielder has again been an important player for his Bundesliga club during the 2021-22 season, making 18 appearances across all competitions, contributing three goals thus far.
The Red Devils have been strongly linked with the highly-rated player amid suggestions that the club’s caretaker head coach has earmarked him as a leading transfer target.
However, according to a fresh report from a British daily newspaper the Daily Mail, the Magpies are desperate to win the hunt for the player, who is currently in action for Mali at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations.
The report states that the English outfit are prepared to make Amadou their highest earner with a wage packet of £160,000 per week, but a £33 million exit clause in his contract reportedly does not become active until the summer, so any transfer this month would cost more than the reported buy-out fee.
Amadou has made 101 appearances for his team since arriving from the Austrian Bundesliga giants Red Bull Salzburg three years ago, registering 10 goals and six assists in the process.
