Manchester United are allegedly considering a big-money swoop for Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn this summer.
The Red Devils, currently led by caretaker manager Ralf Rangnick, are already casting an eye to the end of the term when the club hope to appoint a new permanent head coach – and are also looking at possible signings.
Now, The Telegraph state that Scotland international John is on United’s wish list to improve the midfield and he is valued at around £40 million.
The report details that the 27-year-old has caught the eye of two compatriots: technical director Darren Fletcher and club legend Sir Alex Ferguson.
It is expected that john – who has been at the Villa since moving to the club from Hibernian four years ago – will be offered a fresh deal extension to remain at the club.
Steven Gerrard would be unwilling to let his player go, particularly after they allowed captain Jack Grealish to leave for Manchester City last summer for £100 million.
His leadership qualities on and off the pitch are also believed to be appealing to executives at Old Trafford, with the dressing-room situation under scrutiny now and during the Norwegian Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time in charge.
They are keeping track of him and other midfield options with Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba all out of contract at the end of the campaign.
