Manchester United are allegedly at the head of the queue for Spain and Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz.

The 25-year-old star has again been in brilliant form for his Italian club during the 2021-22 season, featuring in 20 matches in all competitions, hitting five goals and providing three assists in the process.

He has entered the final 18 months of his existing deal in Naples, though, and there have been claims that the versatile player could be prepared to seek pastures new.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are understood to be long-term admirers of him, who arrived at I Partenopei from Real Betis in the summer transfer window of 2018.

However, according to La Repubblica, the Red Devils are in ‘pole position’ to land his services, with Ralf Rangnick’s side also ahead of Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool in the race.

The report adds that the 20-time English champions have pinpointed Ruiz as a possible alternative to West Ham United talisman Declan Rice, who could be priced out of a move at the end of the term.

Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni and Wolverhampton Wanderers’s Ruben Neves are also among the midfield stars to be linked with transfers to Old Trafford over the last few weeks.
