Man Utd could miss out on landing 17-year-old Rangers sensation

Rangers are looking to start contract talks with starlet Leon King because of interest from Premier League pair Manchester United and Newcastle United, according to sports journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Leon, a product of the Gers academy set-up, is highly rated at the Ibrox outfit and has been tipped to have a bright future.

The 17-year-old defender has already registered two appearances for the first-team team but is yet to feature for them this campaign.

However, his future at the Scottish club is under the scanner as his existing deal is set to expire next year.

The centre-half’s situation has seen him draw interest from south of the border in the shape of the Red Devils and the Magpies.

But Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side are keen on retaining the services of their young star and are now plotting to begin contract talks with him.

As it stands Leon is allowed to enter pre-contract discussions with potential suitors when the January transfer market opens, but the management are looking to secure the player’s signature on fresh terms.

He earned a spot on the bench in the team’s 2-0 UEFA Europa League win against Sparta Prague last week, their first match under the new head coach, and it remains to be seen whether he’ll be at his disposal beyond this term.
