Jude Bellingham is the midfielder Ralf Rangnick’s Manchester United want most, but that transfer is not even a possibility until the summer transfer window, according to reports.

The Red Devils are keen to add reinforcements to the midfield as soon as possible, with the likes of Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic and Fred in some need of upgrading and Paul Pogba’s deal expiring at the end of the term.

They have been mentioned with players this month, with Borussia Monchengladbach star Denis Zakaria said to be a target but The Athletic claim that there are no advanced discussions to sign anyone in January, in the middle of the pitch or elsewhere.

However, summer switches are much more likely and the same report adds that Bellingham is the first name on the Red Devils’ midfield shopping list, with West Ham’s Declan Rice also a target.

Both deals would certainly be too colossal to pull off in the winter and may prove too difficult to do this summer as well, but the 20-time English champions will look to pursue at least one of these players.

While the side could finance a move for either Englishman, if United fail to qualify for the UEFA Champions League this term, then the club could be at a disadvantage, with other teams also interested in the midfield duo.
