Newcastle United have reportedly made Jesse Lingard their number one transfer target ahead of the winter transfer window.
The star appeared destined to quit Manchester United in the summer after enjoying a new lease of life while on a short-term loan at West Ham last term.
He opted to remain at Old Trafford, however, and the decision looked to have been vindicated when the player won his place back in the England roster following an encouraging start to the new campaign.
The 28-year-old player featured only sporadically during the latter stages of then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure and was reported to have shelved discussions over an extension to a deal that is due to expire next year.
Jesse is now minded to seek a new challenge and, according to The Times, negotiations lks between the Magpies and the midfielder’s agents are already underway.
They are said to be prepared to make him their top earner and will offer a four-and-a-half year contract worth well in excess of the £100,000 per week Miguel Almiron currently pockets.
Newcastle are looking to spend heavily in the upcoming market in an attempt to stave off relegation following a disastrous season so far.
