Chelsea centre-half Antonio Rudiger looks likely to quit the club for free in the summer transfer window, as the sought-after player has been unable to agree on a new contract.

The 28-year-old star reportedly wants around £220,000 per week to stay at the Stamford Bridge outfit, with the club’s £140,000-a-week proposal to renew last August allegedly upsetting the Germany international.

Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid have all been linked with him, but Manchester United could now enter the fray, according to Marca, as the interim head coach Ralf Rangnick has a “good relationship” with the former Roma ace’s agent Sehr Senesie.

The Red Devils signed the France international Raphael Varane from Los Blancos for £41m this summer to partner club skipper Harry Maguire in central defence, so Antonio would have a fight on his hands to make the starting eleven if he were to move.

In other news, Manchester United have reportedly snubbed an approach from Newcastle United to sign Jesse Lingard on loan.

The 29-year-old star has six months left on his deal and Eddie Howe is interested in making the forward his third signing as the Magpies’ manager.

Whether the club make another attempt to reach an agreement with the 20-time English champions remains to be seen.
