Antonio Conte would be keen on returning to England to manage Manchester United if the club parted with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, according to Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Red Devils are currently top of the Premier League standings after a strong start to the 2021-22 season, but the team suffered a shock 2-1 loss to Young Boys in their UEFA Champions League opener this week.

There have again been questions surrounding Ole’s suitability for the position at Old Trafford on a long-term basis because of his disappointing record in the UCL, losing seven of his 11 games in the competition as head coach.

Conte – recently mentioned with the Arsenal job – has been without a position since departing Italian champions Inter Milan at the end of the 2020-21 term.

Di Marzio has stated that the Italian would likely snub interest from Arsenal if Antonio were approached, but the 52-year-old tactician would be interested in taking the Manchester United job.

“He would only accept a winning project. So I don’t think he would accept Arsenal and that is why he said no to Tottenham. I think he would only accept if say Manchester United called,” said Gianluca.

Conte managed Chelsea for two years (2016-2018), winning the Premier League and FA Cup at the club before moving on.
