Arsenal centre-back Pablo Mari is on the verge to finalise a loan move to Italian outfits AC Monza.

Mari has been surplus to requirements at the North London giants for some time now, having never really looked up to the speed of the Premier League since his £5.4million switch from Brazilian outfits, Flamengo in January 2020.

He has played only 22 games for Mikel Arteta’s team and spent the last half of last term out on loan at Serie A side Udinese and earlier this summer it was claimed that the defender would be returning there permanently.

However, instead, Mari will be signing for Monza as they embark on their very first campaign in Italy’s top-flight and Fabrizio Romano claims that should they avoid relegation they will be obligated to buy the 28-year-old for €5m (£4.2m).

The 28-year-old defender, who was once on the books of Man City, is one of several exits Arsenal can expect to see in the coming weeks before the end of the current summer transfer window.

Hector Bellerin looks likely to make a return to Real Betis permanently after his loan there last term, while unwanted stopper Runar Alex Runarsson is a transfer target for Turkish outfits Antalyaspor.

Arteta is also looking to offload Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Reiss Nelson in the coming weeks.
