Arsenal are to be handed the opportunity to snap up Samuel Umtiti from Barcelona in the summer, according to the latest reports.

The 28-year-old is set to depart Camp Nou at the end of the season as Xavi looks to reinforce his defence ahead of a possible La Liga title challenge.

Meanwhile, the Londoners are looking for a centre-half to beef up their roster ahead of a return to Europe next season.

According to the Daily Star, a deal for him is on the table for manager Mikel Arteta this summer with Blaugrana keen to offload the France international.

In January, the Gunners were linked with a move for the former Lyon star but a transfer collapsed because of him incurring a broken toe.

The injury-prone player’s arrival would almost surely spell the end of William Saliba’s Emirates career. The 21-year-old joined the north London side three years ago but has yet to play a first-team game.

Having spent the term out-on-loan at Marseille, he is set to return to the English outfit and fight for his place with Gabriel, Ben White and Rob Holding ahead of Saliba in the pecking order.

However, Mikel reportedly holds doubts about his attitude and these latest links to Samuel suggests he’s planning ahead without William.
