Arsenal reluctant to reduce asking price for sought-after midfielder

Arsenal are reportedly sticking to their €20 million asking price for midfielder Granit Xhaka, who is wanted by Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

The Serie A heavyweights have held talks with the Gunners in an attempt to agree on a summer deal for the Switzerland international, who the Portuguese head coach wants in his squad for next campaign.

The Giallorossi have yet to be able to find common ground with the London giants though and, according to the Italian newspaper Il Tempo, Mikel Arteta’s side are refusing to budge from their €20 million asking price.

It is claimed that the Emirates Stadium outfit want to bring in the full €20 million in order to help finance their signings.

Arsenal are set to splash the cash on Brighton and England central defender Ben White and Anderlecht’s midfield ace Sambi Lokonga.

The Italians are likely to need player sales to move closer to the north Londoners’ asking price and could increase their bid when they offload goalkeeper Robin Olsen to Lille and forward Justin Kluivert to Nice.

Granit still has another two years left on his current deal at Arsenal. The 28-year-old star made 45 appearances for his team last term as Arteta used him heavily.
