Arsenal snare highly-rated Championship club ace for their U18s

Arsenal are clearly planning for the future as the Gunners bring in youngster Lino Da Cruz Sousa from West Brom.

The 16-year-old sensation was part of the Baggies’ youth sector, playing two seasons above his age group in their Under-18s and the defender – who is part-Brazilian – has already featured for England at youth level.

Head coach Peter Gilbert previously said of the ace: “Lino’s an athletic full-back, reads the game well, has a lovely left foot.

“It’s not often a 16-year-old plays an entire season with the 18s, but that’s credit to him because he has so much potential.”

Football.London states Arsenal academy chief Per Mertesacker had called for defensive reinforcements.

The left-back fits the bill and can operate further forward in midfield. Lino’s close control and dribbling skill had caught the eye of a host of Premier League clubs.

But Arsenal have won the hunt for his signature in their very first bit of business this transfer window. Manager Mikel Arteta will be hoping to sign more new players in the current window.

Fiorentina talisman Dusan Vlahovic has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal but the Spaniard faces a transfer battle with London rivals Tottenham and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City to secure the 21-year-old’s signature.

Arsenal locked in negotiations to take Juventus misfit on loan

Arsenal are reportedly in talks with the Serie A giants Juventus over a loan deal for Brazilian star Arthur.

The midfielder is keen to seal the move but is waiting on I Bianconeri coach Massimiliano Allegri giving the reported deal the all clear.

Mikel Arteta is interested in bringing in reinforcements after allowing Ainsley Maitland-Niles to sign for Roma.

Arthur, who switched to Juventus from Barcelona last year as part of a swap deal for Miralem Pjanic rated at £66 million, is not a regular in Max’s team and has featured just 11 times and four starts this campaign so far.

He played more regularly under Andrea Pirlo last term but has fallen behind in the pecking order and a loan transfer to England could be sanctioned.

The South American was linked with a move to the Gunners’ north London rivals Tottenham before his move to Italy.

The player has made 17 appearances for his country and was involved in the roster that won the 2019 Copa America.

Arthur’s last international appearance came in a FIFA World Cup qualifier versus Uruguay in November when he netted in a 2-0 win.

Mikel is short of midfield variants at the moment with Granit Xhaka testing positive for coronavirus this week and Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey away at the Africa Cup of Nations.

£8m Arsenal recruit emerges as genuine target for Italian club

Lazio are keen on signing Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares, according to the latest reports in Italy.

The 21-year-old joined the Gunners last year, signing for around £8 million from the Primeira Liga giants Benfica.

Nuno has played 18 times this campaign, starting ten matches across all competitions, with six of Tavares’ starts coming in the Premier League.

His most recent appearance came in the FA Cup defeat to the Championship side Nottingham Forest on Sunday. The left-back was substituted 35 minutes in after starting the match very poorly.

The Portugal Under-21 international threw his gloves to the ground in frustration as the ace sulked his way off the field.

The situation seems to have been put to bed after Mikel Arteta said he was impressed with the talent’s reaction

However, the Italian outlet La Gazzetta Dello Sport (via the Express) state that I Biancocelesti are considering a bid for him this month.

The Serie A outfit are keen on bringing the player in on loan with an option to buy after expressing an interest in him last summer.

A move for the former As Aguias prodigy would only be possible if Maurizio Sarri’s side offload Manuel Lazzari, the report also says.
