Manager keen for Marseille to keep Arsenal-owned star beyond summer

Marseille boss Jorge Sampaoli has confirmed that he’d like to sign centre-half William Saliba from Arsenal outright.

He has had a successful campaign on loan at the French outfit, making 51 outings at the time of writing and helping Les Olympiens to second in Ligue 1 and the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League.

There has been a lot of speculation surrounding the 21-year-old player’s future and whether he’ll return to the Gunners or be moved on for good this summer, but one thing is now obvious: the club want him to stay.

‘I hope that there is a possibility for us to keep a player like him [Saliba], who knows the team,’ the Argentine said as quoted by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, via Get French Football News.

‘I don’t know if it depends on OM, William or Arsenal. I don’t know the possibilities in this case.’

The talent was signed for the Londoners by Unai Emery three years ago for £27 million, before being immediately sent back to Saint-Etienne on loan and there was expectation and hype that he’d form a part of the English giants’ defence for seasons to come.

But upon returning to Arsenal a year later, the then-boss was gone, and new manager Mikel Arteta was unconvinced by the ace, leaving him out of the senior roster before loaning him to Nice and then OM.

Arsenal discover easily payable asking price for Napoli man

Arsenal will have to fork out a transfer sum of €40 million (£34 million) for Napoli star Fabian Ruiz, according to the latest reports.

The 26-year-old midfielder has cemented his place in I Partenopei’s starting line-up this campaign.

In 37 games across all competitions, the Spaniard has scored seven times and picked up five assists.

His consistent showings have put him on the transfer radar of both Barcelona and Real Madrid.

However, according to a report from Napoli Piu, the Gunners are the ‘most interested’ in snapping him up.

The Serie A side have set an initial price of €40 million (£34 million) for Ruiz because of his contract situation.

Fabian has one year remaining on his present deal, meaning the player’s value will likely decrease if the ex-Real Betis man is not sold in the next market – and in 12 months he’ll be available for nothing.

The same report also suggests that Luciano Spalletti’s side could even be convinced to drop the price to facilitate a move.

Arsenal allegedly held talks with his representatives earlier in 2022 in an attempt to understand their client’s demands.

It is said he wants to pen a four-year contract when he joins a new club.

Arsenal watching situation of Man City No.7 and could launch move

Arsenal are willing to make a swoop for Manchester City attacker Raheem Sterling, according to the latest reports in the British press.

Boss Mikel Arteta has made the signing of a new number nine one of his top priorities for the upcoming transfer window, but the Spanish manager is also open to bolstering other areas of the attack.

Sterling, meantime, will have just 12 months remaining on his present contract with the Citizens this summer and the versatile player is yet to reach a total agreement over a fresh deal.

They have already begun discussions to sign Gabriel Jesus and it’s said that the Brazilian has indicated he’d be willing to link back up with Mikel, who he worked alongside at the Etihad.

But according to a report from The Telegraph, the Londoners are also monitoring the 27-year-old’s situation and would be prepared to make a move in the summer if the wide man was made available by the club.

The report adds that Arteta would be ready to make Raheem a ‘focal point’ of the team’s attack, although the transfer is dependent on the side qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
