Arsenal news round-up: Onana makes decision, Pablo Mari future, Xhaka speaks out

Arsenal set to miss out on €17m-rated Cameroon international

Buying youngster Aaron Ramsdale in the summer transfer window, the Arsenal board made it clear to everyone they no longer trusted the German star, Bernd Leno.

The former Bayer Leverkusen shot-stopper has been supplanted by the England international, and there is a firm belief that he’ll leave sooner rather than later, leaving a gap in the roster.

One player who was linked with a transfer to the Emirates, even during the summer transfer window, was Andre Onana, who is now allowed to feature once more following his suspension.

He is free to talk to other outfits from January onwards, and there was a belief that Mikel Arteta’s side had come forward with a proposal.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, that’s indeed what happened, but it appears the goalkeeper has chosen to go to Inter Milan instead.

The outlet claim the Serie A giants have already found a total agreement with the 25-year-old star, who has just said ‘no’ to the Gunners too, and the official announcement will be next year.

Andre may see a brighter future at I Nerazzurri, at least in terms of playing time, seeing as ageing Samir Handanovic could retire in the coming years.

Flamengo open to bringing back 28-year-old Arsenal star

Flamengo’s supporters in social media were this week caught by a shocking rumour, as it is now said that centre-half Pablo Mari could soon be moving back to the club.

The 28-year-old star left the Rio de Janeiro outfit on a move from Arsenal in the winter of 2020, and according to fresh claims, his time in North London could be close to coming to an end in the near future.

Although there are many news outlets talking about this possibility, all of them credit one concrete source, which is the Youtube channel Gustavo Henrique Dando Choque, as he is the one who states to have spoken to Flamengo senior figures who talked about the chance.

“It’s evident that Flamengo wants the player to return, however, they have to wait for the window to open,” he said (via Torcedores).

“I talked to an important person at the club who told me the following: ‘Gustavo, how can I say that Flamengo don’t want Mari’s return?

“It is evident that Flamengo wants it, but there are many details that need to be fixed for him to return. Today, we still have no contact with Arsenal on this matter. But we don’t rule out anything. So let’s wait for news.”

Regarding Pablo’s situation, it is fair to say he is not having a great time at the Emirates Stadium outfit.

In spite of playing the two first fixtures in PL this season, he hasn’t entered the pitch for Arsenal since September and his deal with the club runs until 2024.

Arsenal midfielder drops hint over potential Gladbach return

Granit Xhaka has admitted that he’s open to returning to his ex-club Borussia Monchengladbach if the Germans want him back once his existing deal at Arsenal expires.

He played for the Bundesliga outfit for four years before he switched to the Emirates in the summer of 2016.

The player was close to leaving North London in the last transfer market but ultimately ended up rendering his current contract by one year that will see the midfielder remain at Arsenal until at least the summer of 2024.

However, the Swiss has said that he is still open to sealing Borussia-Park return after his Gunners spell.

Granit further added that if Die Fohlen sporting director Max Eberl is prepared to take him back to the club he’ll also be open to a return.

“I’ve just renewed my contract, which will continue for two and a half years”, he said on the MitGeredet podcast.

“[By] then I’ll be 32 and if Max Eberl is ready to take me back at 32, my door will be open too.”

The star has returned to training after sustaining an injury in early October but is not expected to feature in his team’s upcoming Premier League clash versus Newcastle United at the weekend.
