Arsenal make contact to discover asking price for 13-goals Dutch striker

Arsenal have allegedly enquired about landing Barcelona striker Memphis Depay in the summer.

The Dutch attacker only joined the La Liga club last year for nothing after his Lyon deal expired.

He registered 13 goals and two assists in 37 games in all competitions for Blaugrana, but his future in Spain is in question.

Depay’s contract runs out next summer, and Xavi and co. could decide to offload the player in the upcoming transfer market to avoid losing him on a free transfer.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is known to be looking for two centre-forwards with Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette set to become free agents.

Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus has been strongly linked with the Gunners with PSV Eindhoven talent Cody Gakpo has also emerged as a possible option for Arsenal.

It was claimed in April how Depay was on the Londoners’ radar after being ‘seduced’ by multiple Premier League clubs.

And it has now been stated that the Gunners have stepped up their long-running pursuit of the 77-cap Netherlands international.

According to ABC, they have lodged an enquiry to the Catalans to gauge how much they’d need to fork out to bring him to the Emirates.

Arsenal interested in bringing Man City player to the Emirates

Arsenal are both keen on signing Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan during this summer’s transfer market.

The Germany international’s deal at Etihad Stadium is due to run out next June, and the Citizens are reportedly not planning to offer the player an extension.

As a result, the midfielder is set to be available for bargain transfer in the upcoming window despite again being a key player for Pep Guardiola’s side during the 2021-22 season.

Gundogan has played on 42 occasions across all competitions for his team this term, scoring eight goals and contributing six assists in that period.

According to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 31-year-old’s representatives are currently in discussions with the club’s board over a potential summer exit.

Romano says that a number of German outfits are interested in him, while Barcelona are also keeping tabs on the developments surrounding his long-term future.

Mikel Arteta’s side are also believed to be in the hunt for Ilkay, but the Londoners would have to secure the UEFA Champions League football for next term to stand a chance of landing him.

Ilkay has scored six goals and picked up three assists in 26 Premier League outings this season, while he grabbed two assists in 10 UCL outings.

Real Betis supremo on future of Arsenal-owned full-back

Arsenal loanee Hector Bellerin will return to the Emirates this summer after his loan at the La Liga outfit Real Betis comes to an end, the club’s president has said.

The defender made the temporary switch to Los Verdiblancos last August and has impressed this season.

He has featured 32 times across all competitions to help the team lift the Copa del Rey trophy, reach the knockout rounds of the UEFA Europa League and enjoy a strong finish in the division.

Betis chairman Angel Haro wouldn’t rule out the prospect of Hector joining the club next term but said there is no deal in place to sign the Spaniard outright after his loan stint is over.

“Hector is a fanatic player and a very good person. It was a loan that we had from Arsenal, now he returns to Arsenal and from then on, we’ll see,” he told journalists.

“It is true that he has been very caught up in everything about Betis because, in addition, his parents are Betis fans. Hopefully we cross paths again.”

The 27-year-old has had a big impact on the team he has been a fan of since childhood. He was reduced to tears as Hector waved goodbye to supporters after their final home match of the season.
