West Ham United reportedly stay in negotiations over a possible transfer deal for Chelsea centre-back Kurt Zouma this transfer window but also have Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic lined up as a more realistic option.

France international may be slightly out of West Ham United’s price range as the Blues ask for as much as £25m for the defender, with Nikola Milenkovic also a severe option for the Hammers, with some initial negotiations also held with La Viola.

Kurt has the advantage of being proven in the PL, but Serbia international has also shown many promises in his time in Italy, so both would be fine additions to help the Hammers bolster at the defence this transfer window.

The Blues could arguably do well to keep hold of someone like Zouma as a squad footballer, with the defender perhaps unlikely to make too much of a fuss about playing regularly whilst offering the German manager a solid and reliable rotation alternative in the back-line.

Chelsea haven’t always looked entirely convincing in that area, with footballers like Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen a tad inconsistent, even if they did show some tremendous form for the Blues in their Champions League-winning season last term.

It will be interesting to see how this develops, but the Hammers supporters would surely be pretty happy with either Kurt or Nikola. However, while the French defender was a crucial figure under predecessor Frank Lampard, he doesn’t appear to be to Thomas Tuchel’s taste.

The German tactician values defenders who can pass out between the lines, with the 26-year-old defender’s technical skill limited.
