Chelsea should land Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski, according to former Blues man Glen Johnson.
The Pole is reportedly pushing to quit Die Roten this summer and the Englishman believes he would be an ideal replacement for Romelu Lukaku.
The Belgian arrived in a club-record £97.5 million move from Inter Milan at the start of the campaign but has endured a difficult season under Thomas Tuchel, netting 15 goals in 41 matches so far.
The German has often preferred to field Kai Havertz and Timo Werner up front, yet the duo’s goal scoring records aren’t much better. Werner has 11 goals in 34 outings, while Kai has scored 13 in 44 matches.
Robert, by contrast, has bagged a whopping 49 goals in 44 games for his side this season and 343 in total since signing for the club in 2014.
According to Sky Sports, the frontman has told the board he will not pen a contract extension and the 33-year-old wants to push to join Barcelona in the summer, rather than depart as a free agent when his present deal expires in June 2023.
Glen thinks the current situation represents an opportunity for his old club. “For a club like Chelsea, I think they need to sign Robert Lewandowski,” the ex-England international told Lord Ping.
“He is a more realistic signing, but these top, world-class strikers are hard to find. For his age and the possibility of the deal actually happening, I’d say Chelsea should sign Lewandowski..”
