Deadline day of the summer’s transfer market saw Chelsea finalise a one-year loan deal for Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez.

However, in spite of arriving in England with a huge reputation, the versatile midfielder’s time in the country’s capital, thus far, has fallen way short of expectations.

Although the west Londoners are said to have successfully negotiated an option to purchase Saul at the end of the term for around £34m, according to the latest reports, manager Thomas Tuchel is unlikely to activate the clause.

That’s according to a fresh report from La Razon, who states the Champions League winners are thinking about sending Niguez back to Los Rojiblancos once his loan comes to an end.

Having played in just three matches, across all competitions, so far this campaign, it’s becoming increasingly more apparent that he’s struggling to convince the Gemrna that he is worthy of a place in the midfield.

Interestingly, the same outlet has also noted that despite Saul’s disappointing form, the Blues are still interested in a new midfielder to their ranks and one name they are interested in is Inter Milan contract rebel Marcelo Brozovic.

His deal runs out next year, which would mean that should the Croatia international fail to extend his deal, he’d be free to agree on a pre-contract with a foreign team as early as January 2022.
