Chelsea heavily pursuing Monaco No.8 as Blues eye midfield reinforcements

Chelsea are reportedly giving ‘serious consideration’ to landing Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni rather than West Ham’s Declan Rice this summer.

The 21-year-old Englishman could be set for a transfer to Chelsea, following reports that the Blues are considering him as a Rice alternative.

As per The Athletic, Aurelien is under ‘serious consideration’ as an alternative for the Hammers midfielder.

Tchouameni currently plys his trade for Les Monegasques in France, playing in midfield alongside ex-Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas and has impressed in Ligue 1 recently.

The Frenchman could be seen as a cheaper alternative to Declan, who is the west Londoners are yet to initiate discussions for this summer.

The club are looking to spend big on a goalscorer and with the Irons valuing Rice at £100 million, Thomas Tuchel’s side could look for cheaper alternatives if the side were to sign a midfielder.

Tchouameni does not have the Premier League experience of Declan, but he could come at a much cheaper price if Chelsea target the midfielder.

However, the German coach will not make transfer decisions yet as the boss wishes to look at returning loan stars before dipping into the market.

This means that Conor Gallagher, Ruben Loftus-Cheek or Ross Barkley could potentially fill the void left by Billy Gilmour in the middle of the park if the London giants do not pursue either Tchouameni or Rice this summer.

6'2" English centre-forward urged to part company with Chelsea

Tammy Abraham should quit Chelsea this summer because Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel ‘obviously doesn’t fancy him’.

That is the opinion of ex-England striker Carlton Cole, who says Tammy should move on from Chelsea and become the ‘main man’ at another club.

The Englishman has scored 30 goals in 82 appearances for the Stamford Bridge outfit since breaking into the senior team in 2016.

In spite of proving himself to be a consistent goalscorer, Tammy has struggled to cement a regular place in the club’s first team, spending much of the last four seasons out on loan at Bristol City, Swansea City and Aston Villa.

He endured a difficult spell towards the end of last term and was regularly left out of Chelsea’s matchday rosters under Tuchel, most notably in the UEFA Champions League and FA Cup finals.

Despite his recent struggles at Chelsea, a number of English and European sides are said to be interested in landing Abraham and Cole believes now is the time for the player to move on.

‘You get to a point where you have got to know your worth,’ the former forward told talkSPORT.

‘He has gone on loan and done really well at Aston Villa, Swansea and came back to Chelsea, done well. They still don’t value him the way they should do and the way he feels he should be valued.

‘He didn’t play at the backend of last season and he is not in Thomas Tuchel’s plans obviously because he didn’t play.

‘Tuchel doesn’t fancy him and I would look at other options if I were him and say, “let me go and be the main man somewhere”.’

Chelsea quoted eye-watering asking price for former academy talent

Chelsea will allegedly have to pay a mammoth £100 million transfer fee to land Declan Rice from West Ham this summer.

The 22-year-old star has long been linked with a transfer back to the Blues and is yet to pen a contract extension with the Hammers.

But Rice’s existing deal runs until 2024 and the Irons have no intention of selling their star player on the cheap, with The Athletic claiming that they will demand £100 million from any suitors.

Manchester United are also admirers of Declan but are unlikely to fork out such a big fee, considering they have agreed a £73 million deal in principle to sign Jadon Sancho.

According to the report, Chelsea chief Thomas Tuchel has spoken to staff members about Declan and appreciates his qualities but the Blues have not attempted to initiate discussions.

Rice, who started all of his country’s Euro 2020 matches, is thought to be interested in a move back to Stamford Bridge in the future.

However, the west Londoners are also reportedly thinking about other options with Monaco’s highly-regarded 21-year-old Aurelien Tchouameni thought to be of interest.

Declan played a big part in helping West ham qualify for the Europa League last season and manager David Moyes made it clear that the star has a big role to play in their upcoming European campaign.
