Chelsea news round-up: Kenedy makes Blues comeback, Ricardo Pepi transfer revelation, Mbuyamba attracts Italy interest

Chelsea wing-back returns from his Brasileirao loan spell

Chelsea have allegedly recalled Kenedy from his loan at the Brasileirao side Flamengo with the Blues currently facing an injury crisis in the full-back roles.

The 25-year-old star has made just 15 PL appearances for the west London giants, with his last coming six years ago.

He has also had stints on loan at Granada, Newcastle, Getafe and Watford but is now heading back to the capital, Goal Brazil report.

The report adds that Rubro-Negro ‘fought’ to keep him at the club but chief Thomas Tuchel wanted to bring the Brazilian back.

Chelsea at this moment have just two fully fit defenders on left and right wings in Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso.

Ben Chilwell is out for the term after undergoing knee surgery, while academy graduate Reece James has joined his compatriot on the sidelines for eight weeks with a hamstring tear.

Chelsea have also not been successful in their efforts to recall the Italy international Emerson Palmieri from his Lyon loan, with Les Gones reluctant to let him go mid-season.

Kenedy joined the English club for £6 million seven years ago but has failed to establish himself as a senior team regular.

The South American has impressed in 10 appearances for his recent loan club, who won the Serie A title last season.

Chelsea also had €18m Augsburg signing on winter transfer shortlist

Chelsea and Wolves were interested in landing Ricardo Pepi from the MLS side FC Dallas, but the star opted to head to the Bundesliga with Markus Weinzierl’s Augsburg, according to German publication Bild.

He came up through the youth set-up at the American club and made nearly 60 first-team appearances for the Toros before opting to head to Europe.

The 19-year-old striker caught the eye with his showings in the Major League Soccer and a host of elite clubs took notice of the ace’s potential.

In a surprise switch, Ricardo picked Fuggerstadter as his next destination in the game, with the German outfit shattering their transfer record.

However, he could have landed in England and was wanted by the Blues and Bruno Lage’s side.

The attacker was conscious of furthering his development when switching to Europe and decided the Bavarian club provided the proper avenue.

He burst onto the scene with a stellar 2021 campaign in the American top-flight, playing 31 matches for a return of 13 goals.

The talent completed his move in the first week of January and made his debut for them the previous weekend in a defeat to Hoffenheim.

Serie A club make contacts over 6'4" Chelsea academy defender

Chelsea centre-half Xavier Mbuyamba could spend the remainder of the season elsewhere, according to a report from the Italian press.

Newspaper L’Arena states that Igor Tudor’s Hellas Verona are currently exploring the possibility of signing the 20-year-old.

It is said there have been a few calls from I Gialloblu in recent days. They have a number of targets to reinforce their defence and Xavier is one of them.

Since the Netherlands youth international has no game time at the Blues this season, the west Londoners are said to be looking for a loan club for him in a place where the Dutchman can get more appearances.

The youngster joined the Premier League giants on a free move from Barcelona’s youth set-up in the summer transfer market of 2020.

Even though he has been frequently involved in the EFL Trophy and Premier League 2 matches, his debut for Chelsea’s senior team is still to come.

The player’s current contract with Thomas Tuchel’s side expires in June 2023, so following this decision on a possible loan, fans should soon get to see whether the English outfit have any intentions of giving him a fresh deal.
