Barcelona believe the London club have made a ‘big offer’ for youngster Ilaix Moriba, according to reports. U19 Spain international has entered the final year of his deal at Camp Nou and has rejected an offer of renewal. A decision could be made as early as this week on his future.
Ilaix played 18 first-team games for the Blaugrana last campaign, including 14 in La Liga. But his future could be away from Barcelona. The report claims there is a gap financially between what the Catalan giants can offer and what Moriba’s representatives are asking for.
The 18-year-old midfielder’s camp want the youngster to earn nearly £2.5m per season, but the Blaugrana are just prepared to offer £1.7m. The Catalan giants plan to hand the Spanish midfielder a first-team squad number for the upcoming season and believe their offer is fair.
However, the Catalan club are sure the midfielder has an offer from elsewhere and believe it to be the Blues. Bayern Munich also have interest, but the London club would be able to possibly triple Ilaix’ current wages. The Blaugrana will continue in their attempts to get Ilaix to sign a new contract but are not holding out much hope.
The Spanish club will have to decide whether to cash in on the footballer this transfer window or let him leave at the end of his deal in 2022 for nothing.
The Blaugrana president Joan Laporta spoke about the midfielder’s future on Monday. Joan said Barcelona could not allow footballers who have come through the system, such as Ilaix, to leave at such an early time in their careers.
