Barcelona have been touted with an interest in rivalling Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea for Juventus’ 22-year-old central defender Matthijs de Ligt, according to a fresh report.

The former Ajax youngster recently featured in his 100th match for the Turin-based outfit but has been tipped to depart Italy for a transfer to another elite European side.

The Blues have allegedly held a strong interest in the talented Netherlands international for some time, particularly considering the possible departure of three centre-backs in the summer.

Sevilla’s France international Jules Kounde remains a number one target for central defence as well, with Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger all set to quit the club on free transfers this summer following the expiration of their respective deals.

However, an Italian news outlet Calciomercato are stating that Blaugrana remain interested in the highly-rated Dutchman as well, with both teams’ interest flattering the player.

The same report continues with how a €75 million (£62.8 million) transfer sum could be enough to persuade I Bianconeri to do a deal for him, with Massimiliano Allegri’s side concerned of de Ligt’s potential drop in value because of his contract expiring in June 2024.
