Chelsea are targeting Croatia and Stuttgart’s Borna Sosa to provide cover on the German boss Thomas Tuchel’s left flank, according to reports in Germany.

Ben Chilwell’s campaign-ending injury has left the manager short of options and the Blues have been looking to find cover before the January transfer window closes.

The Champions League holders had explored the possibility of landing Lucas Digne but he sealed his transfer from Everton to Aston Villa last week.

The west Londoners have also held discussions with Lyon in a bid to recall Emerson Palmieri, but the French side have refused an offer of £3m.

According to Sky Germany, the Blues have now cast their net even wider and are lining up a move for Borna, as he’s capable of playing in several roles on the left flank.

The report adds that the Villa had also targeted Die Schwaben left-back before they completed their move for the Frenchman.

Sky Germany claim that the Bundesliga side are holding out for a €30m (£25.1m) transfer sum for him, which could put the Premier League side off making a move this transfer market.

They are also reluctant to let him leave as he is an important part of their team and the club are currently in a relegation battle in the top-flight.
