Chelsea have allegedly been dealt a major blow ahead of the EFL Cup final with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool after it emerged that the England international Mason Mount is struggling to be prepared for the game.

The midfielder hobbled off during the first half of last weekend’s Club World Cup final versus Palmeiras, and the seriousness of the ankle injury seemed low after the player was able to walk off without help.

But, the 23-year-old academy graduate was seen using crutches after the match, increasing fears that he faced a stint on the sidelines.

According to The Athletic, Mason has been ruled out for at least 14 days, putting the playmaker’s participation in the Wembley showdown next week very much in doubt.

He’ll definitely remain sidelined for the upcoming Premier League fixture versus Crystal Palace and the UEFA Champions League encounter against Lille three days later.

Manager Thomas Tuchel may not be ready to take any risks on him with five more games to follow the Liverpool clash before the international break.

In the meantime, Chelsea attacker Armando Broja has allegedly emerged as a possible transfer target for Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

Having impressed during a loan stint at Southampton this term, the Albania international is now considered as one of the most in-demand prospects in European football.
