Pundit on future of player for whom Liverpool demand more than £15m

Alex McLeish has suggested forward Roberto Firmino could look to quit Liverpool this summer over his playing time at Anfield.

The former Scotland boss, speaking to Football Insider, said the 30-year-old star would have to be sad about something to push for a transfer away.

As reported by a Catalan outlet El Nacional last week, Liverpool are prepared to let the Brazilian go in the summer for £16.6 million (€20 million).

He suggested Firmino, whose contract expires in June 2023, would remain on Merseyside if the player is satisfied with his place in the roster.

Alex told Football Insider: “The main man in there knows these players from top to bottom. We can only speculate and say that Liverpool may want to balance the books.

“Does Firmino want one last hoorah and seek new adventures? I guess if the player’s happy, he’ll stay at Liverpool. That’s what I feel.

“If he’s not, if he wants more game team then and he wants to go, those are things we don’t know.

“So I’m not about to say to Liverpool they should sell him. It’s one for them to decide. He’s been a terrific player.”

The South American has struggled with injuries this campaign. The striker has played 18 times for the Reds across all competitions.

The former Hoffenheim man’s absence has allowed the Portugal international Diogo Jota to establish himself as a regular this season.

Liverpool No.9 forward could continue his career in La Liga

Barcelona could reportedly be preparing a cut-price swoop for Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino in the summer.

Catalan outlet El Nacional states that the Anfield outfit have decided to sell the Brazil international rather than renew his deal, which expires in June 2023.

The report adds that the word has come from manager Jurgen Klopp directly and that Roberto has subsequently been offered to Blaugrana.

With Diogo Jota establishing himself as the starting striker in this season’s Reds side more often than not, the South American has had to make do with a place on the bench, a current situation confounded by hamstring and COVID-19 absences which have caused the player to miss 14 fixtures.

The same report goes on to claim that he’d be available for a sum of around £17 million, with the club preferring to allocate at least some money for the 30-year-old this summer rather than losing him for free in June 2023.

Xavi’s side have faced serious financial trouble recently and had to focus on free transfers for the likes of Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay to reinvigorate their attack.

The Dutchman has subsequently netted a meagre eight goals in 23 games, while the Argentine has been forced to retire from the sport because of a heart condition.

Barcelona interested in landing 30-year-old Liverpool forward

Barcelona are reportedly prepared to explore the possibility of landing Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino in the summer transfer window.

The 30-year-old attacker has entered the final 18 months of his deal at Anfield, and it has been stated that the Brazil international could opt against penning an extension.

According to El Nacional, the Reds have agreed to sell the South American if the right proposal arrives this summer, and Blaugrana are showing an interest in him.

The report adds that the Reds value the versatile player in the region of £16.7 million, which appeals to the Catalan outfit, as they attempt to make low-cost signings because of their financial issues.

Roberto has scored 94 goals and picked up 73 assists in 310 appearances for his side since making the move to the Merseyside outfit from Hoffenheim in July 2015.

This season, Firmino has netted seven times and registered four assists in 18 outings, including an assist in last weekend’s 3-0 win against Brentford in the Premier League.

Elsewhere, Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is allegedly refusing to budge over his contract demands.

The Mirror states that Salah is still calling for a £400,000-a-week deal at the club, who are unwilling to pay up because of their strict wage structure under the FSG’s (Fenway Sports Group) ownership.

The report adds that Ramy Abbas Issa – Mohamed’s agent – is pointing out Cristiano Ronaldo’s £500,000 per week wages and Kevin De Bruyne’s £400k salary when it comes to discussions over an extension with the Reds man.

Liverpool will certainly be without Brazil international on Saturday

Jurgen Klopp confirmed that forward Roberto Firmino was forced off injured with a hamstring problem that is set to keep the player out of Saturday’s match at West Ham.

The Brazil international was only subbed on at half-time, replacing fellow attacker Sadio Mane but after half an hour Roberto had to come off himself with Divock Origi replacing the South American as the versatile player walked straight down the tunnel.

His injury woe adds to the German’s ever-growing list of absentees and puts a dampener on an otherwise great night as the Reds saw off Atletico Madrid 2-0 to qualify from their UEFA Champions League group.

The Reds head coach said: “If Bobby Firmino hadn’t gone off with a hamstring injury, it would have been much better but it was a good performance. I wouldn’t have expected this when I saw the draw.”

Roberto joins teammates Naby Keita and James Milner on the sidelines with both stars also nursing hamstring problems.

Jurgen’s midfield variants are being sorely tested with Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones also absent.

Firmino’s injury means Diogo Jota, who netted the opener this week, will no doubt continue in the final third of the pitch alongside Mane and Mohamed Salah.

Bayern Munich and AC Milan vying for services of £29m Liverpool signing

AC Milan and Bayern Munich have been linked with a swoop for Liverpool star Roberto Firmino, according to Stop&Goal.com.

The Brazil international is in the final two years of his current deal and could be interested in a fresh challenge come next summer.

With the Portuguese star Diogo Jota gaining more prominence, the South American has had fewer minutes thus far this season.

The 30-year-old has netted 6 goals and provided one assist in spite of the limited time he has been afforded this campaign.

The player has also started to rekindle the linkup with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

The report says that Bayern are leading the hunt amidst rumours of Robert Lewandowski seeking to depart the Bavarian giants.

Italian giants Milan are also keen, having missed out on landing him before his transfer to the Merseyside.

However, considering the lack of options in the Redsforward line, it is doubtful that they would allow Firmino to leave.

As Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino have not fared well thus far, it makes Roberto’s exit all the more unlikely.

He could run down his deal should he decide to leave. However, by the time Firminol eaves, he’d be nearing 32 and the interest may be subdued because of various reasons.

Liverpool striker attracts interest from Serie A and Bundesliga

Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino is subject to rumoured interest from two of Europe’s elite clubs.

AC Milan and Bayern Munich are understood to be ‘plotting a move’ for the Reds’ versatile attacker.

The 30-year-old Brazilian became the first player from his country to score more than one hat-trick in the English top-flight over the weekend.

According to a recent report from SportAndGoal, both sides could target the Anfield outfit’s number nine to replenish their ageing options in the attacker.

The report states that I Rossoneri are planning to ‘revolutionise’ their frontline by landing the 55-cap Brazil international.

This season has netted six goals and grabbed one assist in seven appearances.

Under contract on Merseyside until June 2023 and rated at £36 million (Transfermarkt), the club and the hierarchy more importantly have to come up with a solution for his future soon.

Clearly still a key part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans, the South American would appear to have a future beyond the next two terms at Anfield.

In spite of facing increased competition for a starting spot from Diogo Jota, as well as possible further additions, selling such an important component of the roster to a European rival would be a mistake.

Ireland great gives his thoughts on future of Liverpool forward

The former Republic of Ireland forward Tony Cascarino has tipped Liverpool star Roberto Firmino to be the first to depart out of the famed front three.

The Brazilian forward has played a key part in the recent successes under manager Jurgen Klopp as the central figure between Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

As the board plan to tie down the African wing pair to new contracts at the club, Firmino’s future remains in the air beyond a contract until June 2023.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Tony has tipped the 29-year-old to depart the Merseyside outfit before the others.

“All three of them, Firmino, Salah and Mane have played a high level of football, over a number of seasons.

“It was who was going to have the knock-on season. I would say Firmino didn’t have the season we know he is capable of – Salah was the best of the three last season.

“Maybe Jota coming into the club upset the dynamics of the three in some bizarre way because Jurgen played him, at times.

“He came in and hit the ground running. Certainly one will go, it will be who will be the first one to go? At this moment in time, it looks like Firmino”

Last term, the former Hoffenheim man netted nine and assisted seven goals in 36 Premier League games.

Atletico thinking about forking out €55m for Liverpool striker

Atletico Madrid are stepping up their efforts to land Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino, who is rated at around €55 million, according to a recent report from El Gol Digital.

The Spanish side believe that the Liverpool striker could serve as a perfect reinforcement option, with Diego Simeone keen on strengthening his attacking unit following an early exit in the UCL at the hands of Chelsea.

Atletico Madrid’s interest in Roberto further stems from fears regarding the future of striker Luis Suarez.

He does have a year remaining in his deal but has a clause that could allow him to quit the club for free in the summer.

Jurgen Klopp has had a difficult time dealing with lack of form and injuries and from his star players this season.

The absence of Diogo Jota, particularly, has hit Reds hard, as far as the attacking unit is concerned, especially given how Firmino has struggled to offer that productivity while both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah have not been quite consistent either.

Los Rojiblancos have expressed interest in the South American due to his technical prowess that should serve as a perfect alternative for Joao Felix.

The Portuguese ace, in fact, faces an uncertain future at the club because of his strained relationship with Simeone as well as the club’s style of play that does not particularly suit.

Firmino, his arrival from the Anfield outfit should offer Diego some much-needed options upfront.

UCL giants want Liverpool striker and ready to sacrifice world-class No.9

Atletico Madrid are allegedly weighing up a move for Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino as part of a deal that could see The Uruguay international Luis Suarez head the opposite way.

Luis has been linked with a shock return to Anfield in recent days, seven seasons after leaving Liverpool for Barcelona.

Atleti signed the South American from Barca for a nominal sum last summer and he has scored 19 goals in 25 La Liga matches.

According to fresh reports from Spain, Diego Simeone’s side fear losing the prolific striker at the end of the season and are working to ensure they aren’t caught short.

It is claimed that Los Rojiblancos, who are on course for a second La Liga title in seven years, could step forward with an offer for Roberto as a replacement for Suarez.

Firmino is into his sixth campaign with Liverpool and has six goals to his name this season, compared to 10 goals in 2019-20.

Elsewhere, Liverpool have allegedly had an offer of £17 million for Torino right back Wilfried Singo rejected.

Ivory Coast U20 international Singo has made 21 Serie A appearances this term, scoring once as his side battle to avoid relegation from the Italian top-flight.

Yet his impressive form has caught the eye of the Premier League giants, according to Tuttosport, with the Reds having had a €20 million (£17m) offer for the right-sided defender snubbed.
