Liverpool taking keen interest in £67.5m-rated Chelsea youngster

Liverpool could be among interested clubs making transfer plans to sign Chelsea’s attacking midfielder Mason Mount, according to a report.

Two other Premier League outfits are also keen on landing the services of the highly-rated England international.

The Reds are known for wanting a fresh face in midfield this summer, with either Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham or Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni looking the likely options.

The latest reports state that the towering France international is close to signing for the Anfield club.

As the transfer market is just around the corner, many rumours and claims will be circulating around this time of the term. One player that Jurgen Klopp’s side have been linked to in the past is the Blues academy graduate.

The star has had another brilliant term, despite the Londoners failing to challenge the division title, which the club were expected to do. The Athletic reports that three top-flight teams are planning on signing Mason.

One of those sides are assumed to be the Merseyside giants, who had previous links with him. The same report also says that there are further huge heavyweights around the continent chasing his signature.

15-assists Chelsea playmaker in line for new Stamford Bridge contract

Chelsea are allegedly keen to tie academy graduate Mason Mount down to a fresh long-term contract.

He has been an important player for the capital outfit this season, scoring 12 times and registering 15 assists in 50 outings across all competitions.

Despite the fact that the Blues are no longer facing an uncertain future over Roman Abramovich’s sale of Chelsea, one report has stated that the side are concerned that the 23-year-old could join either Manchester City or Liverpool in the near future.

Sanctions placed by the government on the Russian oligarch are still preventing the Londoners from negotiating fresh deals with first-team stars in spite of the successful takeover and according to a recent report from ESPN, they are hoping to sit down with Mason’s agents as soon as possible.

The main focus has recently been on defensive trio Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta, who are all out of contract this summer, and it has already been confirmed that the former Roma and Stuttgart player will not be extending his Stamford Bridge agreement.

Meanwhile, the England international – who is believed to be pocketing around £70,000-a-week – will see his current contract expire in June 2024.

Chelsea may lose £70,000-a-week attacking midfielder in summer

Chelsea are allegedly becoming extremely concerned that playmaker Mason Mount could leave Stamford Bridge.

He has been a vital player for his team during the 2021-22 season, registering 12 goals and 15 assists in 49 outings in all competitions.

Mason has 10 goals and nine assists in 29 Premier League games, meanwhile, having been an important player for the Blues during the current term.

The Englishman only has a little over two years left to run on his deal at the club, though, and according to The Sun, the 23-year-old is one of the lowest-paid stars at the club on £70,000 per week.

The report adds that the board are fearful that Chelsea’s off-the-field problems could lead to the side losing the academy graduate to either Manchester City or Liverpool.

Sanctions placed on the Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich are preventing his club from approaching Mason over a new contract at this moment in time.

Both Citizens and Reds are believed to be keeping tabs on the situation, with the duo ready to make a swoop if it becomes clear that the attacking midfielder is frustrated in London.

The report adds that the Spanish tactician Pep Guardiola is ‘a major fan’ of him, while the German manager Jurgen Klopp is said to be open to the idea of bringing the player to Anfield in the immediate future.

La Liga club want to prise England international away from Chelsea

Barcelona are keen on signing Chelsea star Mason Mount, according to the latest reports.

The 23-year-old Englishman has a contract running until June 2024 but Xavi is interested in bringing him to Spain.

As per Foot Mercato, the Catalans are in the transfer market for a free-scoring playmaker and Mount is high on the watchlist.

There is allegedly a belief within the Blaugrana camp that the Blues’ change of ownership and the lack of certainty surrounding the club has offered the La Liga side an opening to tempt Mason to seal a move abroad.

This comes as Barcelona have previously been linked with Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic in the past.

It is unclear as to whether the talent would be interested in moving from his boyhood club after breaking into the senior team under Frank Lampard and becoming an important part of the German boss Thomas Tuchel’s plans since.

John Terry has recently named him as his preferred replacement as club captain if Cesar is to depart for Xavi’s side.

“He has been superb and as you said, there are many ways to skin a cat,” Stamford Bridge hero told Stadium Astro.

“He does it differently. His performances first and foremost have to speak for themselves, and they certainly do that.

“When your captain it’s important that you are a consistent performer, week in and week out. You give a solid seven or eight out of 10 every week. He does that for the group.”

Chelsea could face battle to keep one of their prized assets

Barcelona are readying a shock move for Mason Mount, reports say.

Manager Xavi has rapidly got the Camp Nou outfit firing on all cylinders after a poor start to the term.

And the club icon is targeting an eye-catching summer overhaul in his attempt to reclaim the La Liga trophy he lifted eight times as a player.

And FootMercato report he wants the Blues and England attacking midfielder Mason as part of his bright revolution.

The 23-year-old is one of the first names on Chelsea’s teamsheet under the German manager Thomas Tuchel having been given his shot in the senior team under then-boss Frank Lampard in 2019-20.

Since then, the academy graduate has racked up close to 100 Premier League games and earned 27 international caps.

He was on the club’s ‘untouchable’ list, but considering the uncertainty surrounding their future – with the Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich slapped with heavy sanctions shortly after putting his club up for sale – Blaugrana are looking to take advantage.

The Spanish tactician is now set to test the Premier League giants’ resolve by launching a summer transfer swoop to add Mason to his young core of fledgling superstars, including Ronald Araujo, Gavi, Ansu Fati and Pedri.

Chelsea aiming to retain services of talented academy product

Chelsea are looking to open discussions with Mason Mount over a fresh contract, according to the latest reports.

The Englishman’s existing deal expires in June 2024 and the player has become one of Thomas Tuchel’s key men.

As per Fabrizio Romano, the Blues are planning to begin talks with the player to ensure there are no problems with the player’s extension.

This comes after the west Londoners allowed Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger all to enter the final of their contracts.

It was stated back in November that both Mount and the club are yet to hold any negotiations over a renewal.

But Chelsea were expected to make contact with him at the end of the term, but there is understood to be no rush from either side to do so.

The plan is expected to be the same now, with an active end to the term expected as the club have a Carabao Cup final and are still involved in the UEFA Champions League and FA Cup.

Mason is thought to be prioritising winning titles at the club instead of focusing on a new deal as he previously spoke to a French outlet L’Equipe regarding his development and progress in the last 12 months.

Academy product will be unavailable for next three fixtures of Chelsea

Chelsea have allegedly been dealt a major blow ahead of the EFL Cup final with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool after it emerged that the England international Mason Mount is struggling to be prepared for the game.

The midfielder hobbled off during the first half of last weekend’s Club World Cup final versus Palmeiras, and the seriousness of the ankle injury seemed low after the player was able to walk off without help.

But, the 23-year-old academy graduate was seen using crutches after the match, increasing fears that he faced a stint on the sidelines.

According to The Athletic, Mason has been ruled out for at least 14 days, putting the playmaker’s participation in the Wembley showdown next week very much in doubt.

He’ll definitely remain sidelined for the upcoming Premier League fixture versus Crystal Palace and the UEFA Champions League encounter against Lille three days later.

Manager Thomas Tuchel may not be ready to take any risks on him with five more games to follow the Liverpool clash before the international break.

In the meantime, Chelsea attacker Armando Broja has allegedly emerged as a possible transfer target for Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

Having impressed during a loan stint at Southampton this term, the Albania international is now considered as one of the most in-demand prospects in European football.

Chelsea sweating over fitness of England international

Mason Mount faces a stint on the sidelines after picking up an ankle injury.

The Chelsea and England playmaker asked to leave the field just 31 minutes into the triumphant Club World Cup final with the Premier League giants eventually winning it to complete a clean sweep of club trophies.

He left the stadium on crutches and will not undergo scans. Manager Thomas Tuchel said: “Mason told me the ankle was still, painful and didn’t feel good. An opponent fell on his ankle and he hurt his ligaments badly.”

The player has been something of an iron man since becoming a senior team player, only being unavailable for four games since 2019.

However, Mason did struggle with ankle problems earlier in his career. Those four matches he missed earlier this term were due to painful wisdom teeth.

Mount told the Guardian: “You don’t think your teeth are going to stop you from playing football. It did actually really mess me up. It was Newcastle away and I woke up on the day in agony.

“I was in the car back to London and it was the worst journey I’ve ever been on. I wanted to just rip them out myself but it wouldn’t have been the best idea.”
