Liverpool defensive target will pen five-year deal with Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich are set to snap up RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, according to the club’s senior figure Hasan Salihamidzic.

The German giants appear to have beaten both Liverpool and Chelsea to Dayot – one of the most in-demand defenders in the game.

Die Roten chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge previously told Sky Germany that both English clubs were trying to land him.

The Anfield side have been hit hard by an injury crisis that has put Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez out this season.

Sitting 10 points behind PL leaders Manchester City after a run of just two wins from their last nine league matches, the Reds have already started looking ahead to the summer transfer market.

And the Guardian have claimed that this will see Jurgen Klopp’s side increase their interest in Upamecano.

However, quizzed by German publication BILD if he could confirm a full agreement had been reached between the sides, Bayern Munich sporting director said: “I can, and we are very happy about that at FC Bayern”.

Hasan added on Friday: “We had very good, intensive and professional discussions with Dayot and his agent Volker Struth over many months. We knew that we had very strong competition.”

Sky Germany is claiming that Upamecano will sign a five-year deal at the Allianz Arena and say the talent will replace David Alaba, who is out of contract at the club this summer.

The Frenchman has gained several admirers during the last two seasons, helping his side reach last term’s Champions League semi-finals.

Boss wants to sign €42m Bundesliga central defender for Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel will allegedly push hard to bring RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano to the club during this summer’s transfer market.

A €42 million (£37.3m) release clause in the defender’s contract can be activated at the end of the 2020-21 season, and a number of teams are said to be interested in landing him.

Hansi Flick’s Bayern Munich are widely thought to be the frontrunners for the France international, while Liverpool and Manchester United have also been touted with an interest in recent months.

However, the Blues have been mentioned as potential suitors on a number of occasions in the latest weeks, and according to Kicker, new Blues head coach Tuchel is determined to bring the centre-half to Stamford Bridge.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are also understood to be admirers of Dayot, although the two Spanish outfits are struggling financially because of the coronavirus outbreak.

The highly-rated central defender could be in action for his country at this summer’s European Championships.

Elsewhere, Bayern Munich defender David Alaba allegedly favours a switch to Chelsea this summer despite talks that the Austria international has already agreed to join Real Madrid.

The 28-year-old’s deal at the Allianz Arena side is due to expire at the end of June, and a number of sides have been credited with an interest in David’s services.

A recent report stated that Madrid have already agreed a four-year deal with the Austria international, who would officially sign for Zinedine Zidane’s side upon the expiration of his Die Roten deal.

However, according to AS, talks between the two sides are not as advanced as suggested, and the centre-half himself is currently leaning towards a move to the English top-flight and he favours a switch to Thomas Tuchel’s outfit.

Chelsea actively pursuing in-demand French defensive beast

Chelsea are reportedly ‘busy’ working to try and tempt RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano to the club in the summer.

That’s according to Kicker, who say the Blues’ interest has come courtesy of new head coach Thomas Tuchel.

Upamecano is widely expected to quit RB Leipzig this summer, having established himself as one of the best central defenders in Europe during his time with Die Roten Bullen.

He has an exit clause worth around €40 million that will activate in the summer transfer market, a fact that the top clubs in Europe are more than aware of.

Multiple have already been linked with a swoop, with Bayern Munich thought to be leading the hunt as they try and find a successor for David Alaba.

There is apparently interest in England too, though, with Die Roten CEO Karl Heinz Rummenigge recently stating that the Blues and Liverpool are also keen.

The German outlet back that up somewhat, at least in terms of Chelsea, stating the club are ‘still busy in the market’ when it comes to Dayot.

The west Londoners are still trying to lure the highly-rated player to Stamford Bridge and beat the reigning Bundesliga champions to his signature.

Bayern Munich, for their part, are believed to have ‘good prospects’ of signing the French ace, which is presumably why Thomas Tuchel’s side are still having to put some legwork in.

Either way, at this moment in time it seems to be very much a two-way battle between the two sides but Hansi Flick’s side are slightly ahead.

Chelsea ‘interested’ in bringing £38m Frenchman to Stamford Bridge

Chelsea and Liverpool are the reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich’s biggest competitors in the race to land Red Bull Leipzig centre-half Dayot Upamecano.

That’s according to Bayern senior figure Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who also conceded that Die Roten would be losing the Austria international David Alaba this summer.

Upamecano is considered as one of the finest centre-halves in European football and has a bargain exit clause for a player of his quality.

He’ll be available for just £38 million this summer but the deal is set to be sealed in the coming weeks.

Bayern are said to be leading the charge to snap up the French centre-half but Rummenigge insists a deal isn’t done, yet and confirmed interest from the Blues and the Reds.

‘Besides Bayern Munich there are at least two very attractive competitors. The fact is that the player is interesting and the fact is that we will lose David Alaba on the position,’ said Karl-Heinz.

‘The transfer fee has been fixed. You have to wait for the time. The fact alone that Chelsea and Liverpool are also interested in him shows that he has very good qualities.’

Meanwhile, Thomas Tuchel and Jose Mourinho face off in the dugout for the very first time ever as Tottenham Hotspur welcome the Blues to North London for a capital derby on Thursday evening.

Both sides have been in the title conversation during the 2020-21 season, but both Chelsea and Spurs are now seemingly focused on their Top 4 prospects rather than an audacious bid for PL glory.

Hardly anything can separate the teams in the standings ahead of this London derby, with sixth-placed Tottenham – who have a match in hand – and seventh-placed Blues both boasting 33 points.

Norwegian boss keen for Man Utd to sign sought-after Leipzig talent

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Manchester United to land Dayot Upamecano ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, according to the latest reports.

The German tactician has identified French centre-half Upamecano as a possible target as he looks to bolster his defensive options following the injury crisis at the club.

But Jurgen has all but ruled out the chances of his side signing a defender during the January transfer market, leaving the door open for Solskjaer to bring Dayot to United this month.

The Red Devils were close to landing Upamecano last summer and remain keen as they look for a long-term partner for club-record recruit Harry Maguire.

The 22-year-old Frenchman is rated as one of the best young central defenders in Europe, having starred for RB Leipzig over the past five seasons and making three appearances for France.

He could be purchased for £38 million in the summer but Manchester United are considering lodging a bid of £55 million to sign him this month’s transfer window, according to The Sun.

Meantime, United have allegedly rejected bids for midfielder Donny van de Beek this month.

He has struggled to get on the pitch since his £40 million switch from Ajax, having made just two top-flight starts.

Donny’s lack of action even led to Dutch media urging the star to seek a move in the January transfer market.

The Red Devils have loan bids on the table, but have rejected all, according to a report by ESPN.

UCL giants drop out of hunt for 22-year-old Chelsea defensive target

Chelsea have reportedly gained an advantage in the chase for RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano as Liverpool have switched their attention elsewhere.

According to Bild’s Christopher Falk, Jurgen Klopp’s side who were also keen on the French ace, have shifted their attention to Dayot’s defensive partner Ibrahima Konate.

Also from France, Ibrahima is a year younger than Dayot and has formed an excellent partnership with his fellow countryman.

Ibrahima, on the other hand, is very strong in the air and has won twice as many headers as his teammate. Koante certainly fits their requirement.

This shift in focus will see the Blues face less competition when it comes to Upamecano. The 22-year-old defender has attracted attention from a number of elite clubs and will be hot property come the summer.

His relatively modest €42m exit clause will become active this summer. Signing a player of his talent for such a price is nothing short of a steal.

A defensive overhaul could be on the cards at the Stamford Bridge outfit this summer. Thiago Silva is 36 while the futures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen are far from assured.

With the French star Kurt Zouma the only dependable long-term option available, they may need to dip into the market once again.

Landing Upamecano will see the club sign a long-term prospect who has the ability to grow into one of the best in the game.

Chelsea are serious about securing his services and have also sounded out their intentions to his agents.

Chelsea step up interest in 22-year-old France international

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is prepared to shelve plans to bring in a defender and feels central defence is the key department that needs addressing in the transfer market, reports say.

The west Londoners spent big last summer, buying over £200 million worth of new players, and were linked with more audacious swoops in the coming months, notably a club-record move for Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland.

However, the Evening Standard claim that the club’s transfer plans have changed amid their current struggles, and the defence – not the attack – is now the priority.

They had plenty of issues last campaign and the 36-year-old Thiago Silva was the only new signing at centre-back, arriving on a free transfer from PSG.

While the Brazilian star formed a strong partnership earlier in the campaign with Kurt Zouma, Frank has dropped the latter more recently and brought the German Antonio Rudiger back in from the cold, with a host of question marks now developing over the position.

The Blues needed to free up space at centre-half to bring in any new recruits and that has now finally happened with Fikayo Tomori signing for AC Milan on loan until the end of the season with the option to buy the player permanently.

According to the Standard’s report, the English giants have joined the growing list of potential buyers looking at RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano as a possible solution to their problems.

If possible, they would try and bring the Frenchman in now but Die Roten Bullen are extremely unlikely to sell so their pursuit of the 22-year-old star is expected to have to wait until the summer when plenty of other European heavyweights will be circling.

UCL giants plan to sign Chelsea-linked defender for £38m fee

Bayern Munich have confirmed their interest in defender Dayot Upamecano ahead of a summer move.

The Bundesliga heavyweights will battle the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United for the defender’s signature.

Die Roten CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge hinted the club will activate Upamecano’s £38 million release clause.

Karl-Heinz said: “We will of course deal with it, not only with this player but in principle with all the positions where we want and need to do something.”

When asked about a transfer agreement, the German chief added: “It’s too early for something like that, he’s still a Leipzig player at least until the end of the season. But it’s common knowledge that he has a clause in his contract.”

The German side’s interest will come as a major blow to the long list of other teams that want to sign him.

Manchester United have wanted the player since he joined Die Roten Bullen for £9 million back in 2017.

But teh club missed out on the youngster’s signature then because of a row over just £200,000.

Chelsea have been mentioned to him as Frank Lampard plans to strengthen his defensive options.

Dayot would provide competition at the back for 36-year-old Brazil international Thiago Silva.

In last year’s November, it was claimed that he had emerged as Liverpool’s number one target.

Real Madrid, Manchester City and Arsenal are also believed to be keen on him.

Dayot penned a new deal at Red Bull Arena last summer, tying him down until June 2023.

Liverpool set to win transfer race for powerful French defender

Liverpool are allegedly expected to beat fellow European giants Real Madrid to the transfer of RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano.

The France international has shone for his side in recent times and has established himself as one of the finest youngsters in Europe in the process.

According to Don Balon, Dayot had been a target for Los Blancos, but it now looks more likely that Jurgen Klopp’s side will pip the Spanish heavyweights to the potential €42 million deal.

This makes sense for Liverpool, who urgently need to strengthen the defensive options after a difficult season of injuries in that zone of the pitch.

Virgil van Dijk is a long-term absentee, while Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are also both out at the moment, with midfielders Fabinho and Jordan Henderson both playing in central defence in the latest games.

A team like the Reds surely cannot go on like this, and a landing like Dayot could be hugely useful to give the Premier League champions a solid long-term option in that position.

In other news, Liverpool will need to fight off interest from Premier League rivals Leeds United and Manchester City in order to sign Wolves star Adama Traore, reports Spanish outlet Sport.

The 24-year-old is keen on a transfer away from Wolves after a frustrating first half of the campaign which has seen him regularly benched by boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

Liverpool have been mentioned with the Spain winger for much of the past year and Adama is rated at £35 million.
