Serie A giants closing in on £70m deal for Liverpool attacking target

Liverpool target Victor Osimhen has landed in Naples ahead of talks with Napoli, according to reports from Italy.

La Gazzetta Dello Sport and CalcioMercato say that Lille striker is in the city and negotiations are imminent.

It firmly puts Partenopei at the head of the queue for the player. The Nigerian looks likely to quit Les Gones and demand is high.

In April, Le10Sport claimed that Liverpool wanted Victor and his agent then confirmed that Jurgen Klopp’s side had made contact. There was a stumbling block in the Ligue 1 side’s £70m asking price.

It remains to be seen if Napoli are ready to pay that or have simply negotiated a lower fee. In fact, la Gazzetta Dello Sport believes there is still some way to getting this one over the line.

But if the attacker has travelled to Naples, it is safe to say that they are the likely permanent destination.

The Serie A giants appear more prepared to take such a risk than Liverpool with the fact that Juventus supposedly want Arkadiusz Milik and Genaro Gattuso’s side will need a replacement if he goes.

Elsewhere, Liverpool star Joel Matip will sit out the remaining seven games of the campaign after he injured his foot during the 0-0 draw with Everton.

Matip suffered the injury against Everton on June 21st after what looked like an innocuous challenge with the Toffees forward Richarlison and whilst Jurgen Klopp was hopeful that the issue was not serious, it turns out that the star will now miss the remaining seven games of Liverpool’s 2019/2020 term.

The former Schalke man told the club’s official website: “This season I will be not back on the pitch but for next season, I hope I’m going to be, quite early, a direct help for the team.”
