Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand has admitted he loves Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum as a player.
The 30-year-old star has been superb for the Reds this campaign, remaining almost a constant in the team, as well as producing strong displays.
Gini was again excellent in his side’s 1-0 win at home to Ajax on Tuesday evening, helping the Reds qualify for the last-16 of the UCL.
Speaking on BT Sport [via TEAMtalk] after the match, Rio was full of praise for the Netherlands international, outlining why he adores Gini as a player: “I got to be honest: I love this player.
“He’s very selfless, his intelligence, he’s underrated completely because he can play every single midfield position in that central area.
“He’s plays a No.10 role for Holland, the way he defends here [for Liverpool].”
Georginio has always felt an underrated player during this wonderful period at Anfield, such is the subtle nature of his excellence.
He’ll rarely make headlines in the way many of his Liverpool teammates do, but the ex-Newcastle man is the definition of a key cog in the machine.
The midfielder could leave Liverpool at the end of the campaign, with no new deal agreed, which would be a big blow.
Elsewhere, Liverpool are allegedly not interested in signing Brighton’s Ben White in the January transfer window.
With Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk out with knee injuries, Ben had emerged as a possible player of interest to the Reds.
But Sky Sports say Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are all monitoring Ben’s situation with Liverpool unlikely to pursue a move.
