Anderlecht have begun talks with Liverpool linked teenage attacker Jeremy Doku over a new deal in order to safeguard their investment in him.
The forward recently made his debut for Belgium and also netted his first international goal, leading to speculation over his departure from Anderlecht.
Liverpool tried to land him when he was only 15 and have continued to keep track of the ace’s development with a view to taking him to Merseyside.
Anderlecht haven’t ruled out selling the winger if they receive a big-money bid, but the club are desperate to retain his services this season.
And according to Belgian daily Het Laatste Nieuws, the Belgian side have been in talks with Doku’s agents over offering him a new contract.
The teenager still has two years left on his existing deal but Anderlecht are acutely aware of the interest from the Reds and other heavyweight clubs.
Anderlecht want to offer the player an improved contract in line with his development and tie the player down to a longer deal.
Jeremy will enter the final year of his contract at the end of next campaign and Anderlecht want to avoid that situation.
Elsewhere, Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe could reportedly be available for £91 million next summer.
The France international’s current contract is due to expire in June 2022, though, and Liverpool are said to be closely monitoring developments surrounding his long-term future.
A recent report claimed that the Reds’ hierarchy are in regular contact with the 2018 World Cup winner, who has netted 14 times in 35 outings for his national team.
According to L’Equipe, should Kylian fail to agree an extension with his side before next summer then his price could drop to £91 million as the French giants would face losing him for free the following year.
