Liverpool have allegedly made a transfer offer for the Algeria international Aissa Mandi at a fraction of the price of the Real Betis defender’s apparent release clause.
It is being reported by Cadena COPE that the Reds have presented the Verdiblancos with a €10 million (£9 million) offer for the player.
That is considerably cheaper than the star’s apparent €30 million (£27m) release clause. Real Betis are understood to be interested in accepting the offer as he has just 12 months left on his deal.
It’d be a perfect option for Liverpool as the club need a replacement for Croatian defender Dejan Lovren, who recently made a transfer to Zenit.
That deal was worth a reported £10.9m, so Liverpool might have the money to seal a deal for the Algerian star.
Mandi, who has 55 caps for his country’s national team, has been a regular in the Betis team this campaign, playing 30 times after initially starting the campaign out of the starting eleven.
Liverpool are blessed with their centre-half talents, with Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez all present.
Mandi would represent a reliable variant to replace the role Lovren plays in the Liverpool roster and at a reliable price so this might be an ideal deal for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Meantime, Liverpool are interested in landing 17-year-old Portuguese shot-stopper Ricardo van der Laan and according to Football Insider, Arsenal are also understood to be chasing the rising star.
Laan plays for Liga NOS side Belenenses, although he has only represented the U23 team, doing so on four occasions during the 2019/20 season.
