Liverpool are plotting a mega-money swoop to sign Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, according to a recent report from French outlet Le 10 Sport.
Paris Saint-Germain were keen to land the 28-year-old in the summer but they have been informed by the player’s representatives that the Senegalese defender has no interest in moving to France as Kalidou has his eyes set on a move to the Premier League.
Partenopei apparently believe that they could attract offers of around £89 million for the star centre-half, although it remains to be seen if Liverpool, or any other team, will be willing to spend such a fee considering the current global events.
It seems hard to believe that the Reds would be willing to pay out £89 million for Kalidou who will turn 29 next month.
However, considering the medical emergency that’s swept across the continent, transfer fees, on the whole, are expected to be much lower in the summer so it could be that the Anfield outfit are lining up a smaller offer.
However, considering the player’s ability and Napoli’s insistence that they will not lose him on the cheap, any offer made by the European champions is still set to be a large one.
His combination of intelligence and athleticism has been on display for a number of years at Napoli and Liverpool will be all too aware of how good Koulibaly is, having faced him in the Champions League in the latest years.
If the fee is right, Kalidou could be an excellent addition for the Reds as a partnership of him and Virgil van Dijk looks like it’d be an excellent defensive duo, one that could take an already brilliant team to another level.
