Liverpool are set to battle it out with three other European giants for the signature of Napoli star Fabian Ruiz.
The Reds are reportedly interested in the 23-year-old Spain international, but as are Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona, according to calciomercato.com.
The midfielder won the Player of the Tournament at the U21 European Championship this summer, scoring in the final as his country won the title in Italy, and has been capped twice by the national side.
This came after a thoroughly impressive debut campaign for Napoli, making 40 matches and scoring seven goals across all competitions after signing from Real Betis for €30 million (£27m) in the summer of 2018.
The Spaniard penned a five-year contract when he joined Partenopei, which does not expire until the summer of 2023, so the Serie A side would be under absolutely no pressure to part ways and would demand an enormous transfer sum for one of their star players.
Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo have suggested that Blaugrana will make an opening bid of €60 million (£54m) in January, but Partenopei could demand even more than that.
Fabian played against Liverpool in last term’s Champions League group stage, when the club narrowly qualified ahead of the Italian club thanks to goal difference.
Jurgen Klopp’s men famously went on to win the tournament, beating Tottenham Hotspur in the final in June, and Fabian predicted that after meeting them early on.
‘The truth is that we could’ve progressed and eliminated Liverpool, but they got through (the group) on goal difference in the end,’ Fabian told Marca.
‘Klopp has done a very good job, they never gave up. That’s why I think Liverpool will not let the final escape them this year.’
