Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to bring in Timo Werner ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, according to the latest reports.
Liverpool have long been connected with a move for the RB Leipzig striker, with Jurgen Klopp said to be a huge admirer. Werner has already netted eight times for Leipzig in all competitions this campaign.
The Express claim Solskjaer has stepped up his rumoured interest in Werner as Manchester United prepare for an active January transfer window.
Solskjaer regards Timo as a long-term solution to his misfiring frontline and would prefer to land the 23-year-old rather than the likes of veteran centre-forward Mario Mandzukic.
United will find it difficult to convince RB Leipzig to part ways with Werner mid-way through a campaign and it appears Solskjaer will have to wait until the summer transfer window to make his move for him.
The flagman on the German football, Bayern Munich has also been touted with an interest in Werner and the Red Devils could face competition from the Bundesliga champions, as well as the Anfield outfit if they move for the striker.
United are expected to sign one striker in January after injuries to Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
