In spite of struggling with injuries, and a consistent place in the Reds side, Liverpool’s Xherdan Shaqiri is set to stay at Anfield beyond the January transfer market, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The former Stoke City ace could have been one of several stars to be shown the door but for the club’s current injury crisis. As it stands, though, the Swiss star is set to stay put- helping the Merseyside outfit attempt back-to-back title wins in the process.

Now back from injury, the 29-year-old attacker could provide Liverpool with a welcomed solution – as Xherdan has done in the past.

If supporters cast their minds back to just a couple of seasons ago then they will realise Shaqiri’s underappreciated importance.

The former Bayern Munich man played a crucial part in 2018 when the Anfield club defeated Manchester United 3-1 at Anfield – scoring two goals in the last 15 minutes.

Now, three years on, Reds fans will be hoping to see Shaqiri have a similar impact on the team at a time when a creative spark is required the most.

With fellow forward Diogo Jota expected to be absent until the end of this month, and Divock Origi misfiring, Xherdan Shaqiri must stay healthy to take the super-sub burden at Anfield.

He has had several fitness woes during his time in Merseyside, but if it stops he can step up and help Liverpool to lift another Premier League trophy.

As the match against Manchester United approaches, too, maybe the stage is set for a repeat of his goalscoring heroics two years ago in which he netted a much-needed brace.
