Liverpool are in the transfer hunt to land Swiss club Lausanne youngster Joel Ribeiro in the summer transfer window, according to an Italian media outlet Calciomercato.com

Swiss outfit are yet to offer Joel a full time professional deal at the club and are still keen on keeping him in the top-flight.

The 16-year-old Ribeiro is capped at youth international level by his country and plays as an attacking midfield.

The Italian website claim Liverpool will face heavy competition from Serie A sides including Atalanta and Inter Milan.

There have been a couple of connections this week claiming that Liverpool are in the transfer market for youngsters who can improve their youth set-up.

As well as Joel, the club was also connected with a swoop for Dutch youngster Xavier Mbuyamba from the Dutch second tier outfit Maastricht.

These moves are all well and good, particularly for the future but every supporter involved will want to see development being made on more senior moves.

Considering the links with big Italian clubs, and especially to Inter Milan suggesting Ribeiro is a world-class young talent.

The Reds’ progression up the Premier League and also in Europe in the UEFA Champions League could be a huge turning point for a young prospect who would want to play in those sort of tournaments every single year.

At 16-years-old Joel could settle for what he has and for his home comforts in his homeland.

Not many youngsters get the chance to join a top European side like Liverpool when there are playing in the Swiss youth leagues and the talent should definitely take the plunge.
