Former Bolton Wanderers star Jay-Jay Okocha says Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah must seize any opportunity to switch to Barcelona as his current situation at the club is ‘regressing’.
The 28-year-old fuelled speculation of a switch to La Liga in last year’s December when he stated he was open to the idea of playing for either Blaugrana or Real Madrid in the future.
However, the Egyptian wide attacker, whose contract at Liverpool expires in June 2023, has since admitted that he is content to remain at the Merseyside club ‘as long’ as he can.
His remarkable goalscoring ability helped the Anfield side win the Champions League two years ago and the Premier League a year later.
In spite of the poor form of Jurgen Klopp’s team this season which has seen them drop down to sixth in the table, Mohamed has continued to find the back of the net regularly and is the division’s top scorer on 17 goals.
However, former Nigeria captain Okocha feels Mohamed’s ‘energy has run out’ at Anfield and advised the player to jump at the opportunity to transfer to Barcelona.
‘If there is a chance to join Barcelona, I advise Salah to go there. His energy has run out with Liverpool,’ Jay-Jay told ONTime Sports, via Kingfut.
‘The situation is now regressing in Liverpool, and Salah must leave the Premier League. If there is any chance to join Barcelona, I advise him to go there.’
Elsewhere, Liverpool have been put on red alert as Tottenham are readying a move for Lille’s central defender Sven Botman, according to the latest reports.
After shining in Ligue 1 in the heart of Les Dogues’ defence, Sven has also attracted interest from Jurgen Klopp’s side and Serie A leaders Inter Milan.
But according to France Football, Tottenham are hoping to convince the £40m-rated Dutchman to head to north London.
