Former Liverpool defender Andrea Dossena has told the Reds to go all out in their attempts to land Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.

The defender has been persistently mentioned with a move away from Naples in recent weeks, and a host of European clubs have been linked with a swoop for Koulibaly.

Liverpool are understood to be taking an interest in the Senegal international, and he believes that Kalidou could form an impenetrable partnership with Virgil van Dijk at the Reds.

Speaking to Radio Musica TV, Andrea said: “If the league resumes, Napoli will struggle to qualify for the Champions League, so they will have to sell some important players.

“Klopp is missing one piece to complete a stratospheric squad and the Koulibaly-Van Dijk pairing could become a big barrier.

“Liverpool have no economic problems and therefore a deal with the English club would be within reach.”

Everton, Manchester United and Newcastle United have all been credited with an interest in Kalidou, who has made 21 appearances in all competitions for Napoli during the 2019-20 campaign.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are allegedly weighing up a £67m swoop for Sevilla defender Diego Carlos.

The Reds will reportedly be in the market for a new centre-half this summer with Dejan Lovren widely expected to leave ahead of the 2020-21 campaign, while Joel Matip has also been mentioned with an exit.

Carlos joined Sevilla from Nantes last year and has been a key figure for his Spanish club this campaign, making 31 appearances in all competitions, contributing two goals in the process.

According to Marca, the Reds are interested in signing the Brazilian during this summer’s transfer market , while Sevilla are open to a sale due to the financial impact of the COVID-19 outbreak.
