Nemanja Matic has signed a fresh three-year contract at Manchester United, committing his future to the club until the summer of 2023.
The 31-year-old, who has made 14 Premier League starts this campaign, has been a regular in the side since the return of PL action with United in rampant form as they extend their unbeaten streak to 16 matches.
The Serbian has acted as the anchor in a midfield three with Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba, with his impressive form keeping Scott McTominay and Fred out of the team. He has been rewarded with a new deal, that he is delighted to have signed.
‘I am very happy that I will continue to be part of this great club,’ Nemanja told the club’s official website.
‘As a player, I still have a lot more to give and achieve in my career and to do that with Manchester United will be a huge honour.
‘This is a really exciting team to be part of, we have a good balance of youth and experience within the squad and there is great comradery amongst the group.
‘This is a key part of the season and we are playing well. We will continue to fight to finish the season on a high and make our amazing supporters proud.’
Meanwhile, Manchester United have reportedly been left on red alert by Real Madrid star James Rodriguez’s refusal to represent Los Blancos at the weekend.
Despite the midfielder being available for transfer, the Colombia playmaker had been due to feature in Madrid’s squad for the match with Athletic Bilbao on Sunday afternoon.
However, James was left out of the travelling party, with Zinedine Zidane later revealing that the player had asked not to be involved.
According to the Daily Mail, the Red Devils are one of a number of clubs who would have taken notice of the development.
