La Liga giants Real Madrid have announced that the club have reached an agreement with the Portuguese side Porto for versatile defender Eder Militao.
The 21-year-old star has caught Los Blancos’ attention with a host of accomplished performances for the Dragons in the 2018/19 season since his €4 million (£3.5 million) move from Brazilian outfit Sao Paulo the previous summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United were also keen on signing Eder but boss will have to look somewhere else for a central defender after Los Blancos agreed a €50 million (£42.6 million) deal for the Brazilian star.
The young centre-back, who will join up with the new club at the end of the campaign, has signed a six-year deal with Real Madrid which ties the all-around defender to the club until the summer of 2025.
‘Real Madrid CF and FC Porto have agreed the transfer of the player Eder Militao,’ the statement on the Galacticos’ official website said. ‘He will be linked to the club for the next six seasons, until June 30, 2025.’
Eder becomes the opening acquisition of Zinedine Zidane’s new reign after the French tactician returned to replace Santiago Solari as coach earlier this week.
French legend wanted assurances from club owner Florentino Perez that he will receive the necessary money to overhaul Madrid’s roster in the upcoming summer transfer market.
It’s understood the coach will have a warchest of around £300 million to spend on fresh players ahead of the 2019/20 season with Eden Hazard, N’Golo Kante, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe are all on his wishlist.
France international Paul Pogba now wants to remain at Manchester United after holding discussions with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over his future at the Red Devils, reports say.
The central midfielder had been thinking about an exit in the summer window after struggling for form under Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho.
But the arrival of Norwegian tactician sparked a sudden rejuvenation in Paul, and the Frenchman is now Manchester United’s stand-out performer under Ole.
The Sun state Solskjaer and Pogba have sat down numerous times over the last few weeks for personal chats at Carrington, in which the player reaffirmed his commitment to the club.
Paul has two years left on his current contract and has abandoned the possibility of forcing his way out of the side at the end of the campaign.
Barcelona were interested in landing Pogba and were reportedly offered the opportunity to land the 25-year-old star by super agent Mino Raiola.
Real Madrid, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain would come knocking for him were French star to become available in the summer market, but that option is now off the table.
The club will hold off on offering Paul a fresh long-term deal as the board have the option to extend his current deal by another one year. S
olskjaer will be delighted with his decision after helping World Cup winner rediscover his best form in the latest months.
He has netted eight times and registered six assists in the EPL since Solskjaer took over last year, as Manchester United has risen up the table.
Manchester United are reportedly so confident French star Paul Pogba is once again settled at the club that they have ended interest in Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic.
The Croatia international Rakitic was seen as a possible replacement for Frenchman at the height of the lack of certainty surrounding the club’s record signing the previous summer.
But the sacking of Jose Mourinho last year, followed by Red Devils’ resurgence under Norwegian tactician Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has eased fears the midfielder will demand a move at the end of the campaign.
Paul has been made central to Ole’s plans – and the interim coach will seek to build a squad around the £89 million signing once he is handed the job on a permanent basis.
Manchester United always maintained the former Juventus player was not for sale at any price, in spite of his deteriorating relationship with Jose.
Paul did little quell speculation regarding his future after public fall-outs with Portuguese coach – repeatedly refusing to rule out transfers amid links to La Liga side Barcelona.
His brother, Mathias Pogba, recently confirmed the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner’s desire to leave Manchester United due to issues with Jose.
He told a French TV program Telefoot: “Did Paul think about leaving because of Mourinho? Of course.”
The club are said to be in no rush to open negotiations over a new contract for the player, with David de Gea’s deal the current priority.
But the club’s management are convinced he sees his long-term future at the Theatre of Dreams – and are no longer looking at alternatives if forced to sell.
