Ajax starlet Donny van de Beek has suggested he will reject a move to Manchester United this month.

The Dutch ace has emerged as a target for the Red Devils following injuries to Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba which have left Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a lack of depth in the middle of the park.

Van de Beek was instrumental in Ajax’s UCL run last season and he’s continued his fine form this season, scoring eight times in 26 appearances this campaign.

United had hoped that Ajax’s exit from UCL at the group stages would increase their chances of signing the midfielder but van de Beek says he will remain in Amsterdam for at least the remainder of the term.

‘I can’t or don’t want to do anything with it anyway [the speculation],’ said the Netherlands international. ‘I have said before that I will play at Ajax this season. Maybe next season too.’

In spite of his suggestion that he could stay next term, it’s believed Real Madrid have already agreed to personal terms with the midfielder over a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

United have held discussions with Sporting CP over a deal for Bruno Fernandes but the Portuguese club look to speak to Tottenham in the next 24 hours in order to extract a higher sum for the 25-year-old. Ole was coy over the speculation following his side’s 4-0 win over Norwich City.

‘Bruno Fernandes? I can’t talk about individuals that play for other clubs, but I’ve got to say I do have the backing,’ said the Norwegian. ‘We do have the backing to do something if the right thing comes up in this window.’
