Manchester United are allegedly considering whether to hijack league rivals Liverpool’s bid to land RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate this summer, in light of replacing Eric Bailly.

Ibrahima has been a long-time target for manager Jurgen Klopp, with the Reds hoping to land the France youth international in the next transfer window for around £33 million.

But according to Eurosport, the club may have to fight off the Red Devils for his services with their bitter rivals now having the highly-rated defender ‘on their radar’.

Although United have previously shown interest in the player, boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may now take his interest further as the Norwegian considers freshening up his back four.

The report states that while many inside Old Trafford consider Eric to be part of the club’s strongest defensive pairing along with Harry Maguire, Ole has tended to prefer Victor Lindelof alongside the Englishman.

Bailly has just one year left on his contract, and although the club are keen to renew that, he is growing ‘frustrated’ at his lack of senior team chances, with Inter Milan now watching the situation.

Liverpool have been long time admirers of Konate, and have been favourites to land him in the latest weeks, eager to get a move completed before the transfer market opens.

With Die Roten Bullen not in a position of having to sell, any buyer will have to pay his release clause of £33 million (€40m), rather than trying to negotiate a lower asking price.
