Manchester United have reportedly placed Manchester City attacker Raheem Sterling ‘high up’ their priority list for the summer transfer market.
The Englishman has enjoyed yet another successful season under the Spanish manager Pep Guardiola, scoring 11 goals in 24 matches and has attracted interest from Real Madrid.
The Citizens will attempt to overturn UEFA’s decision to ban them from the UCL later this month, but the possibility of no European football has reportedly unsettled some star players.
And according to The Independent, if the appeal fails, the Red Devils will attempt to sign Sterling this summer, in spite of his allegiance to their city rivals.
However, the report states that the player is more likely to move to the Santiago Bernabeu outfit over Old Trafford if he leaves the Citizens.
Also high on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s transfer shortlist are Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish.
20-year-old Jadon scored his first career hat-trick in Borussia Dortmund’s 6-1 win against Paderborn on Sunday but will cost in excess of £100 million to land.
Solskjaer also wants a centre-half to pair with Harry Maguire and the club are looking at Swansea City star Joe Rodon as a backup option for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly and RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils have moved to ensure the future of striker Odion Ighalo, whose loan stint from Shanghai Shenhua has been extended until the winter of 2021.
The Nigeria international was set to return to the Chinese Super League side at the end of last week, but will now remain at the club.
Zinedine Zidane has allegedly held a private meeting with Paul Pogba’s entourage, Mino Raiola, to discuss a move to bring the Manchester United star to Real Madrid.
The French manager is known to be a big admirer of Paul and came close to recruiting him for the Spanish club last summer.
The 27-year-old has been consistently linked with a transfer away from Old Trafford and his agent admitted in February that the midfielder would welcome a return to Juventus.
According to Le10 Sport, the Italian club’s interest has prompted Zidane to step up his efforts to land Pogba.
The reports states that the Madrid head coach recently met with Raiola to talk over a possible transfer as he doesn’t intend to miss out on the midfielder for a second time.
The main sticking point in the talks is the poor relationship between the agent and Madrid’s chairman Florentino Perez, but Zidane is prepared to take matters into his own hands to get the deal done.
The star is said to want to leave United and views linking up with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe at Paris Saint-Germain as another possible option.
The Red Devils may struggle to hold onto the Frenchman, who has just over a year left on his deal at Old Trafford.
However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is interested in fielding Pogba and January signing Bruno Fernandes together when the PL resumes later this month.
The midfielder has struggled with injuries this campaign, making just seven league appearances, but could yet play a part in the club’s fight for the top four places.
Manchester United are targeting Swansea City centre-half Joe Rodon and view him as a cheaper alternative to landing either Kalidou Koulibaly or Dayot Upamecano, according to the latest reports.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already begun his preparations ahead of the summer transfer market, with Metro.co.uk exclusively revealing previous week that United have joined the race with Real Madrid to land Rennes’ highly-rated 17-year-old midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.
United are also planning to strengthen their options in central defence following the arrival of the England star Harry Maguire from Leicester City last year.
According to The Independent, Joe is high on United’s list of options and the 22-year-old star is a ‘likelier’ signing along with Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho in the upcoming transfer window.
The report states that Rodon’s arrival at Old Trafford would also cancel out possible moves for either Upamecano or Koulibaly, who would both cost considerably more.
Rodon has made 46 appearances for the Swans since making his first-team debut two years ago.
The 22-year-old earned his first senior cap for his country last year and reports last month stated that Ryan Giggs had recommended the defender to United.
Joe still has two years remaining on his current deal with Swansea and is valued at around £20 million.
Meantime, Manchester United have confirmed that the club have extended their loan deal for forward Odion Ighalo until the end of January.
The 30-year-old’s initial loan contract expired last month, but the Red Devils have now reached an agreement with his parent side Shanghai Shenhua to keep him at the club until January 31, 2021.
